| I started a new job a few weeks ago. I'm a cashier at wally world and hope to stay until I finish school. Though I do like the people and talking to customers, my feet are killing me. Since I've started, I've been working full eight hr shifts and my poor feet can't take it. My toe has even started going numb. It feels like it is asleep. I haven't had a job where I'm on my feet all the time in over 6 yrs. Payday is this Thursday and I plan on getting better shoes. I do have inserts. What brands do y'all recommend? I figure the numbess is due to standing in one spot all day long since I've never had this problem before. If it doesn't let up though, I will be seeing my doc. For those who have had a similar job, is this a normal thing? I'm a worrier so I'm trying not to work myself up over this since it just started with my new job. |

Get yourself a good pari of shoes and wear the discomfort as a badge of honor.

Location: Somewhere around here | Had the exact same job for over a year and it was uncomfortable in the beginning but I learned a few tricks. An older lady recommended me to wear thicker socks and it the colder months it helped but if you're a naturally colder lady then you could give that a try. Another tip for me was to look for shoes that nurses wear. A little on the expensive side but definitely worth it. When it's being slow try also practicing proper posture; stand straight and have your hands behind you, one hand touching your opposite elbow and same with the other hand. I've done this for a few years and it has helped a few aches and pains. It also shows that you are an "open" person and as a cashier the people might be friendlier to you. |

Location: Gainesville, TX | Look at SAS shoes. They are not the prettiest but not the ugliest. They are some of the most comfortable shoes you will ever put on your feet. My mom is a nurse and wears them often. My grandmother has terrible problems with her feet. They are very narrow with high arches. These are some of the only shoes that keep her comfortable. They are also still handmade in San Antonio. Super high quality. I've been to the factory. Be prepared to spend 100-150, but they last YEARS, like over 10 frequently. Probably worth the buy. |

| I like Clarks. A good athletic shoe like SKETCHERS OR ASICS. My neighbor bought a pair of shoes for nursing that look like Crocks. I would think any good shoe with memory foam in it would be good. |

I bought some with memory foam and around the house they are comfy. They were cheap but I could away with buying cheap cute shoes at my old job. I've worn them since I've started and put inserts in for extra support and nothing. By the end of the day my feet hurt so bad you could cry and I've always thought I've had a high pain tolerance. I get paid Thursday and off too so I'm going to do a little shopping.I definetly considering looking at nursing shoes.

| Grab some Dr. Scholl's gel inserts for your shoes.
Also, it will get better with time. I have to wear steel toed shoes and walk many miles for my job. I thought I was going to die the first few days but eventually my feet toughened up and I have not had problems since. |

| I also work as a cashier and I wear my twisted X bomber shoes all day, and have minimal foot pain. By the end of the day I'm ready to be off my feet, but the shoes really help! I love love love mine! |

Location: Texas | I got my Dr.Scholls shoes at walmart for $30 bucks 5 years ago, I've never had a desk job and normally work longer than 8 hour days. Sometimes my feet hurt when I work more than 5 days in a row, but the shoes are great, they help a lot |

Location: Prosser, WA | Right out of high school I worked as a cashier at a feed store. It took about two weeks until my feet didn't hurt standing on the concrete all day. |
