| I recently (4 months ago) bought an 'ex barrel horse' (aka every single horse around here, from the itty bitty ponies to the big Belgian workhorses) and I think I'd like to enter him in a few races just for the heck of it. He isn't *that* fast, but I'd like to just go have some fun on the weekends and get out of the house. How can I do that? Is there a certain registry I have to go through or do I have to sign up online? We're in South Texas, and apparently there's a lot around here, I just have no real clue where. Thanks! |

| There should be a local riding club somewhere close you could go to just to get the feel of things. It shouldnt be very expensive. It would probably be best to just find out where they are and go check it out. If you specifically want to enter a barrel race they are a little more expensive but you can just find one to go to, show up, and sign up. Hope u have fun :) |

Location: California | I would also check for facebook groups in your area. I had that problem when I was younger. Never knew where the race was until it was too late. Now I don't compete & see every race on facebook . |

| Thank y'all so much! I don't know if there's a riding club, but I'll look into it. My boy loves running, and he's one of those that if I point him at something, he'll do it no questions asked. He's done a complete 180 from a month or so ago where it was fight fight fight about everything, and now I want to see how good we can get. He gets his Coggins done Monday, so maybe by June we can start looking at entering. |

I agree with the facebook groups.. I just moved to FL from OK last fall and I had a time locating all of the races in my area. I started with the NBHA district I was in, even though it's not my favorite association to run it, it's easy to find. Join local horse sale and livestock groups and then post just asking where the races are. It worked! Good luck! |

| Where in South Texas are you located? I am in that area, too. There are the WrapN3, Bluebonnet Barral Racing, NBHA in some areas and a few others. Check the Events on here. Also check out Cowboy Sports News. They have a website too I think. |
