I have done some research on CurOst and Animal Element and heard really great things about both. Im also interested to hear what other products out there are also great. What do you use and why?

Im looking for something that will help with overall health, joint issues prevention, calming, feet, etc.

I am often asked what the best supplement program for horses would be. I always have the same answer, better quality roughage. People have heard me often say "we feed horses into trouble, and then try to supplement them out of it". Minimize grain based feeds from the diet, never more than 1 1/2 pounds per feeding, feed the best hay that you can find, and don't add anything to the diet that has vague wording on the ingredient list like, "grain byproduct"," forage byproducts", Brewers grain byproducts, etc. Don't feed corn, stay away from soy if your horse has allergic symptoms and provide plenty of clean water and salt. Use this as a base for your diet and add additional energy sources in the most natural and smallest packages. If you do this, you can leave most supplements in the store.

thanks for your reply. I already do the best I can with a good all around feed, plenty of grass, good hay an such. All my horses look and feel good. I just want something to give my main barrel horses to keep them doing great over a long time. I went ahead and tried Animal Element after a friend told me that it did wonders for her rodeo horse and helps keep him sound and healthy through all the travel and stress. So, we will see.

THE can make a great custom supplement for you with all of your requests as well as the amounts you want in it per scoop. Or you can either do a Muscle Mass or Performance with special blends added to it. I'm super happy with all of the products I have tried and they are affordable! Its a miracle! Krystal is great to work with!

The major problems facing us and human beings AND our beloved horses is our food as well as the food we feed our animals is lacking in natural minerals. Farmers fertilize using traditional/commercial fertilizers from coal/tar derivatives (dead dinosaurs) such as nitrogen over and over and over. These don't address the absence of minerals. When soil tests are done the one common denominator is usually the lack of natural minerals, Magnesium at the top of the list. The body can NOT function properly without minerals; and when I say natural minerals I do NOT mean those chemically created in a lab. The body won't assimilate the food properly, the brain becomes fuzzy, our hair falls out or quits growing, we have trouble sleeping, and our fingernails become brittle with 'ridges'.

There is a pandemic of depression and other mental illnesses in our country. Our horses are exhibiting the same issues and the root cause is lack of natural minerals. Look at the hoof problems, the ulcers, the nervous attitudes, meltdowns and lack of focus. This is usually blamed on breeding but I think it has more to do with nutritional problems than the bloodlines. Sure...there are some bloodlines hotter than others and prone to colic and bad feet but I really believe many of these things can be corrected if the natural minerals were present.

I did an little experiment several years ago when I had problems with my chickens and their eggs. YUP... I know chickens are NOT horses however they are animals and it is a good way to figure out what is going on with the larger animals. Here is my story:

Question? Which came first; the chicken or the egg? In our case it was the egg or rather the hen that laid it. Why were the eggs from our hens when reaching their 1 yr birthday always had thin shells and ridges? I tried everything for those hens; different feed, cheap fee, expensive ALL natural fee, 16% lay mash, 20% lay mash, making my OWN lay mash, vinegar in the water, baking soda, a pan of raw milk, oyster shell. I even solicited the advice of the master β€˜heneries’ but nothing seemed to work. Despite all my efforts those blasted hens still laid eggs with ridges and paper thin shells and there was absolutely nothing I could do about it. Perplexing. Oh the eggs out of our fancy Rhode Island hens were jumbo sized, brown and were fertile. IF they could make it to the kitchen without cracking they tasted wonderful, however and sadly to say several succumbed only to make it to the garbage because of those blasted thin shells with ridges.

We have a small horse breeding operation in south central Utah and like any other same farm/ranch raise a few hens who lay fresh eggs as well a couple of Jerseys cows we milk for our family. Yup, I know I already told you about those blasted brown eggs. So what do eggs have to do with minerals? As I studied, reading everything until I was bleary eyed, I discovered the one thing missing in diet was minerals. The lack of minerals created a lack of absorption and therefore a lack of nutrients. My hens although I was feeding the best food possible were starving and their egg shells were the witness of that starvation.

Then I learned not all minerals and mineral sources are the same. Some are man-made; synthetic you might say, although they have the same formula they are not the same. A mineral duplicated in the chemistry lab is not the same as the one occurring in nature.

I embarked upon a journey to find those minerals. After much searching these wonderful essential minerals were found. Somewhere in a secreted location, not far from our small ranch is the private deposit of our natural occurring plant based 69 mineral deposit. This β€˜magic dirt’ with these ALL natural minerals was mined, cleaned, water washed and assayed for a guaranteed analysis. It was LOADED with minerals and NOT overloaded with sodium or SALT. Almost immediately we started feeding this β€˜magic dirt’ to the hens and the eggs shell problems were resolved. No more ridges.

I added a few all natural ingredients, NON-GMO barley, wheat germ oil, acidopholus, pro biotic, diatomaceous earth (natural wormer), natural clay, and a few other proprietary ingredients including 69 ALL Natural minerals from the same source and made them into a pellet.

The things I did NOT add were beet pulp because it is fractured food and some studies claim it is a cause of respiratory problems as well as arthritis and joints problems; alfalfa-- not consistent and most cubed sources are from moldy, colored hay; rice bran---this product made my barrel mare a nervous NUT; FISH OIL commonly known as omega 3 oils--check out the source. Most are from FISH. When was the last time you saw your horse go down to the river and go fishing? or EAT fish? It's an unnatural food for ungulates (grass eaters like horses)

Anyhow I added our pellets to the feeding program for our 37 horses and our 2 Jersey milk cows and the results were amazing. Almost instantly temperament changed, then the hooves, and the bloom on their coat was a plus. Milk production increased nearly 1 gallon per day per cow. I know, I know...phenomenal, not possible? Just ask my vet...Doc Utley, he's still scratching his head; my farrier Leslie Mills too.

Thunder Mountain Minerals. It just works.

As a user of THE Equine Edge products I can tell you I am beyond impressed on how they worked for my horses general health. So much so I became a distributor. One of the things that impressed me most was the fact that they have two base line, all around supplement for general health (Muscle Mass & Performance) with the ability to add special blends to target your horses special needs. Examples are Hair & Coat (helps with those rain rotty issues) Bleeder Breather, Ulcer Prevent, Calming, and so on. For the price, you are getting way more than the average supplement.
