Who has dealt with this, what treatment did you use, and what was your success rate? I hauled my horse to Pell City, AL to see Dr Wagner and he did a blood test for EPM, due to her symptoms. We'll have the test result back Wednesday but he said to mentally prepare for it because he's confident that's what she has. She also had two locations of kissing spine. My poor mare and myself can't win for losing.

I am treating my horse for this as we speak. He has minimal....MINIMAL signs but I opted to treat him anyways. I did not have the test done to confirm if he has it or not because a majority (I've read as high as 80%) of horses will test positive for it. I just opted to treat him. The vet said he has never had a problem with one being treated that may or may not have had it. After 30 of the treatment I will go back to riding him and see what happens. I will say that since we started treatment he seems to move more free and easy and seems more "alert". If its caught early I'm told they can be ridden and live a great life.
I've read that it can have a relapse or become symptomatic again in extreme heat. This is my 2nd EPM horse, the other one we did not catch early enough and just had to maintain and make him comfortable.

Thank you. She's only 7 and I hope we've caught this early enough for her to fully recover(if her test comes back positive).

What did you treat with?

And another interesting article.  What if the kissing spine, EPM, and other issues could all be related through stress, inflammation and other contributing factors?  http://www.nouvelleresearch.com/index.php/articles/400-lyme-anaplasmosis-epm-in-the-horse-relapses-thoughts-and-theories

2 years ago my mare was diagnosed with EPM and KS.
I treated EPM through Pathogenes Lab.  My mare had extremely high titers, even though she never showed any classic neuro signs.

I saw Dr. Honnas about the KS...  This horse never showed any of the classic KS signs, not like my other one who also showed positive on x-Ray.
Dr Honnas had a very interesting statistic on KS:
out of 100 horse, 30 will show KS on the X-ray, but out of these only 3 to 4 experience pain.
My EPM mare is fine now.
good luck!

I lost an OTT 6yo mare to this in August. I spent $1,100 on the Bayer Marquis, got 3 doses in her and she died on the 4th day. Was awful to witness. She showed promise of recovery, but it was too late. I still have 4 unused syringes of Marquis if you'd be interested. Expiration date is 3/18.

Hope all goes well for her. I found a pretty interesting article on the subject. Probably been posted before but it's informative so I'll post it again

Thank you! I'll let you know what form of treatment my vet goes with and if you still have the medication I'll gladly buy it from you!

We used ReBalance and had great success.  I have had different friends used different products.  I think most with good success have treated with 2 different treatments.  We used another liquid that starts with a T. . . I'm sure someone knows.  But I do a yearly treatment with ReBalance or something else.  ReBalance is the cheapest and therefore I use it.  I think it is a guessing game, as far as what works on each horse.  I also did Immune from Animal Element during the treatment.  I should probably do that periodically too but money is an issue for me so I pick and chose by price.
