I discovered him under my back porch in a crate I had stored under there. Obviously he's been bitten in the face, his face is so swollen his eyes can't open and they are full of pus. He's very lathargic and just laying in there. It's not my cat, it's just a Tom that's been hanging around the property for a while. We let him stay because he's a good mouser. But we don't feed him.. he kinda comes and goes on his own. So I called my hubby who's out of town and told him, he sent a buddy of his over here to check it out and see about putting the poor thing out of his misery. He looked at him and said to give it a few days and see if he gets better. He said his cats been bitten twice in the face by a rattle snake and recovered on its own in a few weeks. I feel horrible for the poor cat, I've never seen such a swollen face on a cat before! I have another kitty who while was outside got bit in her legs, two of them, she's recovering inside my house her legs swelled up so bad and then she blew two abscesses out of both legs, still limping on the back leg but the hair is starting to grow back around where it blew out. My hubby will be home later this afternoon and he said he'd look at him and decide what to do. I personally don't see that cat making a recovery but apparently they can after being bit in the face?

More than likely he will die especially from a rattlesnake bite. The nasal cavity will swell shut, and he will suffcate.

Poor thing! I hate to see animals suffer as well. We did treat a snake bite once with Dex but have no idea what a cat dose of dex would be. Sorry there... If he were my cat I would have probably put him down myself by now.

I had a barn cat that I am pretty sure was bit by s snake. I found his buddy dead and him a few weeks later. He survived but was never healthy, we ended up having him put down.

This is what I'm afraid of for my little indoor kitty, when I brought her in after we saw her limping she was so frail and thin.. she's gained her weight back and seems like she's perky and she plays but she won't use that back leg at all! I won't ever be able to let her outside again because she can't defend herself or climb trees.

I have a dog that was bitten by a copper head in the face. I immediately gave Dexamethasone and penicillin for swelling and infection. I also had some leftover pain medication from his neuter I have him a few hours later. He made a full recovery. Worth a shot to try.

2 of my kittens were snake bit last year, but both on the butt and they recovered fine. I had a dog get bitten in the face and throat a long time ago. Vet said if they swell out instead of in, they have a chance to live. That one recovered and kept right on killing snakes.

I'm not 100% sure it was a rattlesnake, I'm just assuming, obviously it was venomous, we have copperhead too. I think. I haven't seen anything around our house or pastures but these cats wander all over and there's really thick brush that's beyond our property. Makes me super nervous for my kiddos, dogs and horses. We try and keep everything mowed down and weed eated and my chickens have gotten a few baby snakes but I've never gotten close enough to see what kind!

Offer the cat some water and moist food..

I'm going to have my daughter check on him when she gets in from school. Unfortunately I'm stuck in bed with a heating pad on my back. Had an awesome slip and fall on my back steps at 130 this morning because I heard my horses running like crazy in the pasture, went out to investigate and it was raining. Horses were just playing

Makes sense. I sure hope he pulls thru. My daughter is an excellent animal nurse, she loves rehabbing and I've had more baby birds and baby bunnies in my house than I'd like to admit. She will be glad to take care of him.

Can you put a few drops of benadryl in some drinking water?  I think my husban's puppy just passed from some kind of snake bite or poisoning. He was swollen in his midsection and passed immediately.  On the other hand, I have a lab that has been bitten three times and just keeps on trying to kill anything  that slithers.

Not a good update, she went to offer him some water, she said he took just a few licks and he's bleeding from eyes and his mouth. We are going to end his suffering. :-(

My Siamese cat was bitten twice by some poisonous snake on the side of his face--same place. The first time we did not know he had been bitten and it abscessed about a month later. The second time, I knew when he came in at night (Saturday night). Called the vet the next morning and she treated him and he was fine within a few hours. The cat lived to be 16 years old and had to be put down MANY years later.
