Location: LaBelle, Florida | My mare was given an injection Monday by the vet, now having a reaction to it. Stiff, imflamed, sore, sore enough she doesn't want to put her head down to graze on good green grass.
Anyway the treatment program is in place, bute for the pain and inflamation, dmso topically.
I did not get the chance to find out how much down time to expect.
Anyone else have this happen and how long did it take to recover?

| I'd say at least 3 to 4 days. What kind of injection? Make sure that you try to get her head down. The more she moves the better and the quicker the stiffness will go away. |

Location: LaBelle, Florida | It was Kenolog, for allergic reaction to no seeums. I already have her on garlic, have fans hung in the stall, auto misters with repellent. She was just starting to itch some. I was hoping to head it off at the pass this year.
I live next to a swamp (SW Fla) so bugs are prominent, esp since we did not get any really cold days this year and were really wet.
I was trying to help her out and it backfired on me...

Location: Florida.. | few days she should be good.. bute helps. it happens to my mare to. just make sure the water is up a lil bit so she can reach it. |

Location: Oregon | I have a horse that has a reaction to everything, every time, poor guy. I give him bute before hand and after and he's still stiff, tender, sore for 3-4 days. HATE it when he needs shots :( |

Location: LaBelle, Florida | Good news....she can put her head down this morning...I had hung her hay and her water is in an upright barrel. This morning she had cleaned up the hay that had fallen on the floor. She had drank about 4 gallons of water (her norm).
Neck felt normal temp and she was demanding her breakfast.
I gave her another gram of bute and sprayed her neck down with dmso again to be on the safe side but I think the worst is over. |

Location: Jersey Girl | I always give my horses bute usually the day of and the day after vaccinations. It really seems to help minimize any soreness. |

It took mine about 3 days. I was not a happy camper. I brought my horse up for a demo for school and both mine and my friend's mare reacted to the shots. They were pretty sore for 1-2 days then just a little bit the third day. |

Location: Mississippi | I agree with giving bute prior to injections. My mare is allergic to everything, it seems. The bute beforehand really helps. This year she never even acted like she had any shots. I have started giving to all mine beforehand as well. |
