| I ride one. Was trained and shown as a reiner but had too much go for it. She is little, rides and looks like a cowhorse. She is very very ratey, if you are not on top of your game she will hit. She is UNBELIEVABLY athletic and freaky. I bought her for 5k from a reiner and she can clean up in small and as well as super deep pens. She ran .2 off of an American qualifier FINALS horse and rider combo this past summer and has beat 60k horses in small pens. In larger pens she is lower 1D, maybe top 2D with true 1D horses. She is the SOUNDEST thing I own in the barn, and shes barefoot. I firmly believe a lot of the joint and longevity issues comes from breeding for so much speed, we are losing substance. Nothing EVER shows up on thermography, ever! |

| Just bought a reject cutter about six months ago. All I gotta say is boy is he quick! Like one of the above posters said, I really have to get myself in shape to be able to ride him cause if you're not ready to turn, you're gonna come off. Really like him, super broke and he hunts the barrels like no other horse I've ridden. |

My older open horse was a reiner. He patterned so easily, but is twice as hot as my race bred horses. I did have to teach him how to turn a circle without always trying to roll back, but it didn't take long and he is a four-wheel drive turner. Actually, he was the hardest horse I have ever trained to get him to lock on to the first barrel. Once he learned how to run, he had no plans on turning at the first barrel, but was always locked on to the 2nd and 3rd. He really didn't consistently start turning it (without a lot of help) until he was 11 or 12 and required the help of a tie down (just during competition). Don't ever let anyone tell you that a horse isn't broke if they have to use a tie down because this horse is broke to death, but when he runs he just needs that little bit of balance to get around the 1st barrel as he runs at it so hard. I'm actually sending my 3 year old to a cutting trainer to put the finish on him because I liked the "super broke" feel.
This.  My reined cowhorse mare is ridiculously hot and I wasn't so sure she was going to turn the first, but man does she have a LOT of power. She is 18 now and still hasn't slowed down for barrels or poles...but she has learned to walk on a loose rein with barrels up in the arena. Finally. |

Location: Nebraska | I've got a little cowbred mare. She's my versatility horse, not a barrel horse, but I can tell you a little bit about her. Peppy Badger Chex+Reminic on top, Doc O'Lena on the bottom. She definitely has a speed limit- I've had to over&under her in practice just to get her to pick up enough speed to execute a good run-down. But she's got a good mind and she's broke.
Her paternal half brother I guess runs at high school rodeos in Oklahoma, and she has a number of successful team penners in her family. That's probably going to be the Peppy San Badger in there- they are quick. The Doc O'Lenas tend to be sweethearts who like to have jobs, but as I said, she has a speed limit that she does not like to go over. |

| Reined Cow Horses. Will cut, rein, and fence a cow. They have it all. Not a lot of events for them after futurity and derby years. You can go to www.nrcha.com and watch their big events. | I love them. I know a lot don't because they are usually short. I have had some people say "oh he is so short" but just watch him run and turn. People are funny. I prefer the short horses. And the three that I have had stayed sound. |
