WPRA Advice please!

I've been thinking about getting my WPRA permit this October, depends on how my horse does this year BUT he feels great and has been clocking almost wherever we go. I have been on the rodeo road before for college but didn't really compete much, learned a lot on what not to do and who to trust though lol! I'd like to shoot for being top rookie in my circuit
(or in the top 5
) and possibly make it to my circuit finals as a few goals to have. Any tips or words of wisdom?

Permits expire at the end of every calendar year so it wouldn't make too much sense to get it in October, because you'll have to buy another one at the end of December. But if you don't care about that then go for it! Assuming you're placing 1D in large jackpots, you should be ok!

They start accepting applications October 1st for the following year.
My best advice would be to find someone who is experienced in your circuit who can give you guidance on how, where and when to enter. They can also tell you where the ground is good and what performance you would want to enter for to get the best ground.
Most of the circuit's have a Facebook page so check that out for info along with the WPRA website.
And, be sure to READ YOUR RULE BOOK! This is very important and you can learn A LOT from it.

I would buy the permit now and fill it so that starting Oct 1st if it is full you could get a card and have all the fall rodeos count for year end standings. If you get a permit in October then as soon as you fill it you could buy a card but that money is lost for season standings.
**** Otherwise I would just rodeo all 2017 on the permit and get the card to start for hte new season in 2018.

That's most likely the goal since we're still going to see how my horse does over this summer to see if he could compete with the big boys
(ahem, girls lol
).
