| I have a mare that is extremely cranky. While riding her she swishes her tail constantly and pins her ears back. Any time you touch her sides at all she may try to bite at your legs. I have had her teeth floated - no major issues, examined by a vet - no soundness issues, got her caslicks and on regumate (for about a month now). However her attitude has not really changed. Chiropractor said her neck and lower back was out but not bad enough to induce such behavior. Any suggestions? Supplements? She isn't enjoyable to ride the way she is and I feel horrible how extremely unhappy she is! Her saddle/tack fits correctly, feet trimmed regularly and handled daily. She just seems to hate life! :/
Does anyone else have a mare like this? If so what did you do?

Location: Missouri | I have several customers who use Animal Element Freedom (new name) it is their mare formula that is all natural and no filler ingredients. They all say it works! Some have to feed more that was is suggested.
PM me for information if you would like |

Location: Where the long tails flow, ND | I had a mare that acted similiar to what you are saying, just not that extreme. She was also very reactive to bugs, they seemed to set her attitude off even more.
She has been on Cur-OST since October and a totally different horse. The secondvet.com forum is very helpful ! |

| Because you have tried regumate and that didn't fix it, it is probably not mare related. Could be ulcers or pain. Or some horses just have a terrible attitude. I had one like that for about a year. I tried everything with him...one night I loaded him in the trailer drove to the guys house I purchased him from. I opened the guys gate, put the horse in and drove away. Glad to be rid of him! |

| I forgot to mention I took her off grain for two months, only fed alfalfa to act as a buffer since high in calcium - no change.
She is not reactive at any ulcer testing sites per veterinarian. The grain I currently have her on is supposed to help horses with ulcers. But good idea I should put her on Ulcerguard just to see. Any suggestions on a more inexpensive ulcer treatment? |

Location: Piedmont, OK | First check for ulcers. Not just ulcer points. If it's not ulcers then it could be sore ovaries. I'm not sure how old she is. Sometimes young mares have really hard cycles. If that is the case Raspberry leaves and Freedom by Animal Element will help with the "mare attitude". I would also put some copper pieces in your water tank. My grandpa always did that for any mares. |

| She is 6. We gave her Lutalyse to knock off a persistent follicle and now she is on Regumate so she doesn't cycle at all. I have never heard of that! I will give that a try!
And I am thinking I need to order some things from Animal Element as well along with ulcer meds if needed after getting scoped. :)

Location: Cocoa, Florida | Have you had an ultrasound on her ovaries? I would recommend that before putting one on regumate since it's pretty expensive and may not be needed. Sometimes like us, they can have a cyst or Tumor on their ovaries that causes a lot of pain.
Also what is her breeding? Maybe check for Pssm or other genetic diseases.
And like the others have said, you should really scope for ulcers or treat with an omeprazol first. |
