Location: Northwest Florida | I apologize if this is a "stupid" question, I just can't seem to find any for sure information on it online.
If a horse owner lives in Alabama, where it is required by law that an equine massage therapist practice only under direct veterinary supervision, can that owner haul their horse to a licensed massage therapist in Florida, where no such law exists? Would the massage therapist or the owner be at risk of getting fined?
My initial thought would be of course they can, but I can't find anything on this for sure. So, if anyone knows the answer please share. Thanks! |

NO.......you would be bound under the laws of the state where the massage took place. |

The massage would be taking place in Florida, where the therapist resides. Florida does not call for veterinary supervision, only Alabama, where the horse and owner live.
Most of you seem to be in agreement with my initial assumption. I wasn't sure though if the owner would be bound by the laws of their state of residency, or if the therapist would be unable to work on a horse that resides in a veterinary supervision state.
It makes sense that the law applies to the where the massage is taking place, and not where either party actually lives.
Thank you! |
