Tying up the throatlatch is recommended by Dave Elliott, it engages the big properly, and for leverage. Try it, you will be surprised

tin can - 2016-05-24 8:26 PM Can you show a picture I'm not understanding what you mean about the curb straps and how it works better thanks
I just use a saddle string, some people use shoe laces. Just connect the string from the throat latch to the curbstrap (for some reason my throat latch looks really tight in this picture, I promise it isn't!)
I am going to try this! Thank you for sharing! Love all my Elliot bits! |

Location: PA | So I have a rather stupid question....(I'm "bit" challenged )
When you call and order one from him, how do you know what you want? Or do you just tell him, this is the type of horse its on, and i'm looking for this type of reaction from my horse, and he makes whatever he thinks?? I'd really love to order one for my horse, but NO CLUE what kind i'd need....everyone I see that post theres, all look different!!! |

Location: Idaho | I own 14 bits by Dave... all of them are fantastic and are the only bits I choose to ride in... from starting colts, to tuning up trail horses, to competition runs. My favorite is the 02 shank with a MCP-19 mouth. I feel it works on MANY horses and has a good feel to it. Horses really do well in that or my 01 with MPC-07 mouth (most common mouth piece). I work closely with my equine dentist to establish an understanding how each of my personal horses mouths look and work. I've got one gelding who has a high/narrow pallet and can not have a "dog bone" mouth piece or any two piece mouths... so I have gone to a 10 link chain for him and he works really nicely in it. Understanding what your horse needs and lacks can help you find a bit that has the right feel for you. Most of my clients HATE when I put an Elliot on their horse because they love it so much but cant afford one. They are worth every penny. |
