GO FOR BROKE BARREL HORSES ...

SURE SOUNDS REASONABLE AND STRAIGHT FORWARD TO ME >>>>>>

As a trainer I put a lot of time and effort into many different areas for your horses benefits. I choose to be a trainer. I understand there are easier ways to make a living but in that being said, You did ask me to train your horse so here's how it works for me.
To live I have to have insurance. A mortgage. Groceries. Fuel. Child care. Truck. And a couple other necessaries that require Money. So If I take your horse on I want to know how long. 30 days, I see. Well I have put my time in to educate myself in this field and what I know is not a lot is gonna happen in 30 days. You see if I send your horse back to you and he does something Ill which is most likely what they do in there first 30, then I'm gonna have a bad rep because you thought he'd be 100% ready to go! 60! Ok getting better. Now. Usually from my experience with starting horses that 60 day mark is about when they might decide they don't like school no more. But wait. He has to go home? So trying to clean a youngin up and from what I've learned it usually takes 21 days to change a horse. So if an issue arises and Exspecially if it's a habit, I can count on changing his behavior around the 21 day mark. That's just for one issue! So let's talk a minimum of 90 days.
90 days I've seen a horse come into himself pretty well. They should have a general idea of a stop and indirect rein and leg cues for the most part. At this point it usually dawns on them why they are there. After buying shavings and bedding down the stall that I've added automatic waters in to save time and money for me or my help, depending on how much he ****es in his stall I might have to add a bag or two a day. No I'm sorry I do not keep training horses turned out in a pasture. I want them caught up where I can maintain there feed correctly. Don't particularly care for horse to be fighting others. Make sure they're feet are cared for. Not have to run around for an hour trying to catch him so I can ride him. So I built you a barn!
The walls are safe. I don't have any wire to poke him in the eye or get cut on. I've added mats for his stall so he can stay dry when all his **** collects and I don't have to add clay and dirt every day back to his stall. You see when I braid his mane and tail it promotes growth and shows I care about his appearance. If he stays in the pasture until I ride him I'd have to untangle and pull the stickers out and knock mud off him every day. With all the extra time I have .....
We do provide a nice fan that will keep him cooler in hot months. Guess what that fan runs on? ?? Uh oh! He doesn't get along with his stall mate next door and every time I feed he kicks the wall. He broke three boards out! I'll run down to the Local hardware store and grab a few more. $24 a board! Ouch. Over time brushes get where they don't work. Stall forks break , mostly from pushing dirt around underneath his run that he's walked up so it don't flood when it rains. Things need to be replaced. This arena I have has lights on it. I like them that away when the summer months are here I can flip em on and ride under cooler weather. It's better for your horse and me! Yes sir I have cows. No problem showing your horse to a cow. My grass is getting short out here so I need to start buying cubes and hay. Cattle need vaccinations and deworming too. How many days a week do ya ride?
I don't ride on Sunday's sir. I have to take atleast one day off. The barn chores still get done. Does my horse have to stay stalled unless you ride him? No sir. Your horse will be turned out everyday regardless if he gets rode. Usually he will get 2 -4 hours out in a turn out that I built just for that. It cost me $90 a panel to build that! It's 80x60 for him to go fart around in. Ok it's starting to sound good. I'll bring you feed and hay to help with the price.
Honestly it doesn't help. I have a good feed program that I've created. My feed is a 12-6 pellet. I don't feed anything less than a 6% fat. It's quit a bit better for em when they are working that hard underneath me. They get fed breakfast at 7 am. Hay Lunch is 11:30. Dinner and hay again at 8 every evening. And when your out of town or something has come up. Your horse doesn't have to go without cause you can't bring it for a few days. It makes a lil more sense that I don't have 8 different kinds of feed in my feed room and I don't get confused on what eats what... My feed cost me $12.50 a bag. There are on average 14 scoops in that bag. I feed usually two scoops a day to one horse. I understand there is better feed available but considering that I would have to pass that charge onto you. As your trainer I look out for your best interest with your investment.
Now the ole boy I use to send my horse to was $500 month. I'd go get em 30 days he's been riding pastures, bar ditches, and I could put my wife on him same day I got em back. Sir that sounds great. Let me ask you, what did he teach him? Is broke in the face or body? Any certain discipline?what can ya do with him?
Well I can ride him. He doesn't pick up both leads and leans real bad towards the barn and Sets back time to time.
I see sir. Now in my opinion I don't want to send a horse home like that. That's kinda why I designed my program the way I have it. To help the horse. To help the customer. And to help my family. You see If I took horses in for 30 days at a time. Every 30 days I'd be looking for another horse to replace the one that just left. Now that hour that I spend on your horses back everyday , considering his teeth are done and his growth plate allows me too, im gonna put all the education I've gained from the other 20 legitimate trainers I've rode with to help him. After all the ground work I've done and the time I have to spend getting him to a point where I can just saddle, bridle and step on and go teach him something valuable, cause he was not halter broke yet. I figure that's what you want? You don't want to have to lunge him to get on correct? Correct! Well what ya charge?
My minimum is $1,000 month.
Well let me think it over. I've heard your good at what you do and you produce results with horses but I may just have to send him to my other guy for $500 a month and you can just finish him right?
Well sir it makes more sense to me if I started him. Don't know your guy and I don't really want to fix what a guy can't go on with. You see I find it hard to trust horses from some guys that can start horses but can't finish them. If you don't know where the end result is how do you know your doing right for the horse ? I'd rather spend my time and your dollar getting right to the point and not having to spend 21 days trying to fix something that should have been taught his second week of riding. I've rode under trainers in many disciplines to gain my education. Reiners. Cutters. Ropers. Dressage. Race horses. Barrel horses. Competive trail, and pleasure , just to name a few, all just to be able to have the right answer when a problem might arise. All the time of walking horses to the turnouts rain or shine, frozen or fair. Cleaning stalls. Dumping the manure buggy. Pushing a broom. Grooming the horses and arena. Scheduling times with the vets and farriers. Finding a trailer safe, efficient and with enough room to move horses from show to show atleast 6 at a time. Choosing that certain vehicle equipped enough to pull it reliably . Checking the security cameras through out the night after I get in at midnight to make sure he's safe and sound in his stall. The fuel it takes to get over to the feed store. Then when I arrive I find out the price of feed and hay has increased. The maintaining of vehicles, tractors and anything I need to assist me. Always wearing dirty clothes and smelling like a horse. Walking into town and getting stared at. Holes turning up in my boot soles from standing in water and bathing him after I ride to make sure he's clean and doesn't have fungal infections developing! What would you charge? Sure I can bring 20 horses in and make a lot more but am I really?? There is only one of me and to be fair to the horse and customer does stacking horses make any sense? Not to me. I choose quality riding over quantity riding. 24 hours in a day and ya gotta start over the next time the sun comes up.
Now I completely understand not everyone can afford a trainer. It's a luxury. To the owner. It's a car or mortgage payment a month and not everyone has that kinda cash put back.
To the trainer , as in me. It's late paying my bills because your check didn't come on the first when my bills are do. It's eating a sandwich for the day if I get lucky and my truck runs on fumes. Using an emergency credit card because your check is now 3 weeks late and now I have to rack up interest charges. It's going without because you might have decided you didn't want the horse anymore and stuck me with it. So because I have a heart I'm not gonna go tie it to the mail box. I'm not gonna kick it in the back forty and let it defend for itself. I'll go broke making the right decision for an animal that I didn't ask for.
Not all customers are for me. I'm not pointing anyone out at all. I've seen just about every scenario available. Just remember, if you take your horse to a trainer. Do him or her right. They depend on you to do your part. Pay your training bill. If you can't afford it, wait or find one you can.
Choose him or her wisely. Not everyone is gonna be an advocate for you or your horse.
They have wives or husbands. Sons and daughters. Birthdays. Graduations. Unforeseen events will happen. Groceries to buy, pay helpers and etc etc just like you do. This is a small part in what a horse trainer will deal with on a daily basis. Divide that monthly bill into all he has to do for your horse and what it cost to maintain an animal that big, he doesn't clear a lot after that. How do you think they afford any of it.......
