So, I am moving and will finally be somewhere that I can have my own feed mixed. My mix is going to be oats, alfalfa pellets, stabilized rice bran pellets, flax, and just enough molasses to hold everything together.
My question is on the storage. I have to get a ton at a time. I will only be feeding a couple of horses and at 6 pounds per day, a ton will last me a long time.
If I keep the feed in a fully enclosed building that does have some insulation, will the feed last? The feed will be out of sunlight and will be rodent free.
I want to have my feed mixed, but I don't want to waste my time and money if it is going to go bad.

I would think if it's a cool/dry place you wouldn't have to worry about it

The molasses component would be the only concern for me and that long of storage. I have a 90 day limit on molasses in feeds.

Are you getting this in bulk or bags. I get mine bagged and I only get a half a ton in the summer time as that last me 2 months for six horses. In the cold months I will get a ton at a time. Are you sure they will not do a half a ton in the summer for you if you pick it up yourself bagged.

I would just buy everything seperate in smaller amounts and mix it myself.  Would probably cost more, BUT the chances of if going bad would be eliminated.  IMO, 11 or so MONTHS is WAAAY too long to store it.  (2000lbs of feed, divided by 6lbs a day is 333 DAYS to use it up.)
