I have a very nice gelding that came from the Judd Little Ranch. I bought him from a trainer I know who while he had him put his own brand on him as well. To me all this is clutter and it makes it more difficult to sell a horse. I'd like to know what everyone else's opinion is.

I may be an oddball but I like seeing brands on horses. I have never thought it made them harder to sell. To meet it seems like the more brands it has the more people are proud to say they wanted to show off their brand on that horse because the horse was "brand worthy".

If it's a nice horse, who cares?  I bought one with 5 brands from the ranch where she was born--didn't put me off any, and I had no trouble selling.

All mine are branded but if it's something I've bought that already has a brand we won't brand it. I think it just shows someone cared enough about their program to want to put their mark on them

I agree with this. We have our own brand but with the young horse we buy from production sales they usually already have a brand on them. We've also decided that we'd like to brand horses born on our property.

One of ours wears the breeders brand on his shoulder and my fiancΓ©e's on his hip. Another one of ours has 3 including ours, 2 on one hip and 1 on the other hip. FiancΓ©e has a good reputation for producing quality horses - it's pretty neat to see where they've ended up. We've even caught a couple backing into the box on the final spin on rfdtv.

It wouldn't bother me one bit, it's a silly thing to worry about.  If I really like one I own - I might brand it.  If I was making and selling young horses - those suckers would be branded.

I've seen horses sell that have a double branded booty, a brand on the hip, brand on the cheek, and brand on the shoulder.....5-6 brands that sell.

I have noticed that some people will not buy a branded horse.

I think it depends whose brands are on there. If they are brands that signify quality (like Jud Little brand and then a reputable trainer brand) it probably would help rather than hurt its resale. To me, it wouldn't really matter, unless it had a brand from someone that didn't have a good reputation.

We just bought a rope horse with 2 brands. We won't put ours on him, but we weren't bothered that he'd been branded twice. More curious of who's brands they were. We won't sell him so we're not worried about that.

I saw some young horses from the same seller on this site that had a huge brand on the shoulder.  Maybe as the horses grow the brands will deminish is size, I don't know but it was really tacky. that was as far as I got.  Not a fan of multiple brands and I would have to really be in love to purchase one.

I'll be the odd one here, I dont mine one brand if its reasonable size, but I dont like seeing brands that will cover the shoulder are thigh 6 to 8 inches long looks like a darn billboard, and I dont want to see a brand from every owner, like on both hips, both shoulders. Saw a nice gelding that caught my eye then when I saw the other side of him there were 3 very bold letters that were at least 6 inches long on his shoulder, nope. I have my brand on my horses that are here for life, very clean freeze brand with RC.
