| I just bought a used trailer with a nice 30 gallon water tank on the roof rack. We pulled it down today to clean it - it was pretty nasty. There is a round fill hole in the middle (top) of the tank, and the little hose attachment hole on the bottom (side) so no possible way to scrub. We filled with water, rinsed and repeated, but it still wasn't totally clean. I finally added 2 capfuls of bleach and rinsed three more times. Now it is clean and hopefully I got most of the bleach out.
Since it lives on the roof, I imagine it will get algae-ish again.
How do you all clean water tanks and keep them clean?? |

| Is the top hole not big enough to get an arm through? I had one that sounds similar. I kind of have to hug it and wrestle with it but I can contort my arm into the corners with a scrubber |

| Put about 1/4 cup of bleach per gallon of water. Fill the tank and let sit at least 30 minutes. As long as you can let it sit is better. Rinse by filling completely at least three times. |

If i do this to the letter, do you think my picky horse will drink? That's what I'm so afraid of with the bleach... |

I thought about this and it's such an awkward angle, I don't think so. |

Lol, no. It's the size of a hose nozzle. |

I would say keep filling and rinsing. |

| I'd find some sort of cover for it that will keep the light out. No light = no algae. Or at least a lot less! And the bleach will dissipate on it's own just leave the tank open for an afternoon in the sunshine, most of it will be gone after that, then I would rinse it once more. |

Location: In the Hills of Texas | The door on the fill hole for my water tank inside my trailer fell off...I took my trailer to a trailer place to replace the door and a few odds and end stuff and they said my water tank was full of mosquito larvae and they cleaned it out. I wonder if that is what was in yours?
