I really hate that this happened but no one will do anything about it. It someone gets 90 days for raping an unconscientious girl, what kind of penalty do you think someone who steals a few saddles is going to get? That is what our country has come to. Sad but true.

I think it is time we started hanging thieves again! This is getting so out of hand.

More than you realize, especially in that part of the world.  Not all of them walk scott-free and those that are allowed to be on probation are given that chance as really a means to work to pay back the person who they stole so much from.  The victims aren't getting money returned to them when the defendants sit in prison and it's hard to enforce restitution when they get out.  Most who have big amounts of it to repay will end up violation probation in the end and eventually go to jail so even if they are granted probation, they usually serve some time.  It's easy to only see what the media reports.  If you are involved with the justice system on a regular basis like I am, you see the true reality.

Here in TX if the TSCRA and TX Rangers get involved (They always do) they push for the harshest punishment available and the judge usually allows it. I remember two boys in college around here getting 5 years in state prison each for stealing 5 saddles and selling them as used to a store out in west TX.
They were up for parole after 2 1/2 years and I believe they got out. But they did spend two years in prison for it.

The Rangers are super sneaky too. They usually catch thieves by using a fake FB profile and meeting them in parking lots to purchase stolen tack and saddles. Makes me laugh at the criminals every time they get caught this way.

I would like to add that the Rangers have totaled up the value of each saddle and the amount that was stolen is way above the Felony stolen property limit here in TX. When these saddles are recovered and when the Rangers find the scum who did this, (and they will)  the criminals will pay heaviliy. One thing you don't do here is steal a man's saddles. The rangers will push for the harshest punishment avaialbe for Felony theft nd they will most likely get the harshest punishment.

re reading my post now I realize my tone in this post is a bit snippy I APPOLOGIZE!! Not trying to be snippy toward you at all streakysox
. But trust me, they will pay for their sins.

I really did not take it as snippy. There was a saddle maker in Marshall that had about 4 or 5 saddles stollen and they got one back. Not sure they caught the guy but not much was done. Seems people do not have a fear of any kind of punishment.
