Location: Georgia | Anyone have any experience with this? Exercise recommendations? I was suggested to contact and Equine Homeopath, but I'm not familiar with what they have to offer. Aqua Treadmills? EquiVibe? Theraplate? Massage? Acupuncture? Chiro? Any suggestions and or advice will be greatly appreciated! |

Full set of X-rays from neck to hoof to tail, Chiro, injected hocks, treated for EPM(which she was actually diagnosed with). My vet recommend repeat EPM treatment and treat for ulcers to see if that helps because she still has some muscle atrophy in her hind end and in the mean time he said he felt like she had a pinched nerve causing some discomfort in her back. I'm really wanting to throw in the towel but this horse is amazing when she's 100%. It makes me sick to retire her but ultimately I want to do what's best for her. |

Yes, full spine XR. Two minor locations of kissing spine but nothing they seemed to concerned about, close to touching but no contact between the vertebrae. My vet said the kissing spine could be managed with routine Chiro and doing exercises to engage the core, which is what I've been doing. |

Hi, we've been trying to figure out the cause of soreness in one of our horses. We had x-rays done of the spine and didn't find anything that'd be causing it, lameness exam done, stifles fine, hocks sore, had time off then went back to work and relapsed. Had a repro exam done just because she'd never had one to see if we had any cysts causing discomfort. Upon palpation, the vet felt some calcification near the SI. We had her back ultrasounded and she'd had a pelvic fracture. She never had enough time off to heal from it, but she will now! Vet and Chiropractor say prognosis for recovery is good.

The first sign was that she would swap leads a lot in her hind end. She also stopped engaging her hind end and became very front endy on the pattern and that's not like her at all. She's always been a tail dragger. The final sign was a huge buck she threw coming off the third barrel one night at a barrel race. |

I've given this mare almost 4 months off. I hope to start her training back once we retreat for EPM and treat for ulcers. Also I plan to have her adjusted and massaged as well.

That sounds exactly like my mare. She also ended up having a rear suspensory issue so I don't know if that is where the lead swapping came from or not. She had a colt last year and this spring when I started riding her she was cold backed and would buck after a spook or tripping. It was unusual for her but other than that she felt good so I chalked it up to being fresh. Then she started getting front endy and not wanting to collect, would hollow out her back etc.
She also started to BUCK after turning second and after third so I completely quit the pattern till we got it figured out what was going on. It looked like a stifle issue and per advice I got I worked a lot on collection exercises and got to where she was getting a lot better and not wanting to buck. Obviously that actually helped her KS!
Her KS is pretty minimal but apparently can pinch together when making hard/fast moves. At this point we are not injecting only because she is out for a few months due to her suspensory but I am doing PT and stretches and we will X-ray once she gets cleared for riding and see if we need to injected.
Did you vet not want to inject? |

Mine didn't want to inject. He wanted me to work on engaging her core and strengthening her back and stifles. I plan to restart her in about 20 days, so hopefully I'll be able to tell a difference in a few months! |

Location: God's country...aka TEXAS | kissing spine also causes severe muscle spasms that seem like a nerve is being pinched. Out of nowhere they can buck etc. So that may be partially what you are experiencing. Also even if they are not touching on the xray - that is when they are standing with no rider. The spine compresses more when they are carrying a rider and having to make sharp turns. |
