Opinions on camian belly seats. Good and bad points. Do you like them? Are they grippy or slick? do they get scratched if you have rinestones on your jeans. All tips appreaciated. Thank you

If you buy a caiman seat, I would suggest an inlaid bicycle seat, not a full seat. Caiman is slick.
Like all other leather it will get scratched by rhinestones. However, it is much stronger than suede leather is.

I would own one with an inlaid Caiman seat, but not an overlaid all caiman seat.

I have a pozzi with a gator seat in it and I LOVE IT!! It is more slick than suede but not unbearable. I've had one with an inlaid seat and I hated it. I felt like the inlay was raised up out of the seat and I sat ON that instead of IN my seat... If that makes any sense!

I'm not sure if there is a big difference in caiman seats and gator seats but I have (had) a blue gator seat on my Double J. It was absolutely beautiful then as it started to be rode in more the color started to fade bad... But it is a tough seat and it's comfortable too (not to grippy and not to slick)! I haven't noticed any scratching or anything like that, just the color fading.

But, something to keep in mind is when I went to order a Slone rope saddle I asked them about if the stingray seats fade in color as well. They said that if the back of a hide is lighter (like almost whitish) then it will fade because the color did not bleed through all the way :)

Yes it's the full gator seat :) I love pretty much everything about it other than the color fading!

I have a full caiman seat on my reining saddle. Big mistake lol that thing is slicker than snot, but it sure taught me to sit my a$$ down and feet forward in my stops.

I haven't noticed the slickness with my crown c. I had an ostrich seat before and that scratched so easily and was so slick. This gator seat seems to hold up a little better. I still don't have jeans with rhinestones (I bought them all without so I wouldn't scratch my ostrich seat) so can't comment on that.

Fake croc seats are very slick. The real stuff isn't that slick.

A lot of companies sell the imitation as the real thing

It's a Don Rich so I doubt it's fake, plus I paid a small fortune for it so it better not be lol.

my barrel saddle has a full caiman seat and I love it. It's real hide, not embossed leather. I don't feel its slippery or slick at all. The owner prior to me had "bling" jeans that wore on the seat. It doesn't rip or scratch, just wore away at the "scales" in the hide. I wouldn't shy away from owning another saddle with the same seat.
