Bear with me while I think/type out loud:

ECP Matrix Costs about $80/month, about $2.70/day and I basically get a free month after buying two bags. (Figured by 30 days at 30 scoops and 15 scoops left over from each bag. After two months thats a free third month.)  Also factored in is the initial 20 scoops for the first ten days estimated at 2 scoops a day. That leaves 25 scoops for the 1 scoop per day after that to round out the month.

GI Matrix costs the exact same as above with the exact same dosage figured.

Cur-OST EQ Stomach costs $63.74 each when I buy two bags. ($127.48 for 120 scoops) So let's say I feed two scoops twice daily for the first ten days. That's 40 scoops in 10 days. That leaves me with 80 scoops. Maintenece dosage is 2 scoops once daily or twice daily as needed. Let's say I only need one scoop after that. That's 80 days left in the two bags combined. With 20 days left in the month since starting the Cur-Ost I am left with 60 scoops at the beginning of the next month. That should last me all month. So broken down Cur-Ost costs about $63.74/month, $2.13/day IF I buy two bags at once and only need 2 scoops per day.

If you've followed me this long, Thank You!

Now, give me opinions on each of these products for an ulcer prone horse. Which product will help a horse with current inflamed ulcers and which product is better suited for only prevention of ulcers?    Annnnnnd GO!

ETA: Clearly I am on a tight budget.... LOL

Thank you for your input. However, I am specifically asking about the three listed as they are the only three I am considering at this time. Thank you .

You should post on the secondvet.com forum and Dr. Schell will be a huge help for you

I haven't had to use Cur-OST Stomach but do use Total, Immune, and Adapt and Calm, depending on the horse.

Good luck!

I use the Cur Ost stomach, however I never had them scoped. The one mare acted as if she were colicing but after colic treatment, still was in discomfort, so per my vet I treated her for hindgut ulcers and I used the Stomach and we have had no more problems. My other horse showed positive for ulcers via the acupuncture points and again the vet advised ulcer treatment, so I put him on the Stomach. He cleared up just fine and I continue to use it when I know he will be stressing- hauling, extreme heat with no breeze, etc.

Thank you for the great info GLP. Glad it has worked for your horses. Good to know it's not only for preventative care but for treatment as well.
I appreciate your input.

I buy the marshmallow root in bulk sizes from Cur-ost (1lb is $10 plus shipping) then I buy 1lb of Aloe powder from https://www.herbaffair.com/aloe-vera-powder/ (1lb is $17.50 plus $4.99 shipping) I mix them up and feed the same recommended dose as Curost per day. You can find the Stomach label on the CurOst website. I used a food scale to measure out exact quantities at first.

I know this is not preferable but it saves a lot of money and its the only way I can afford get a similar product into all my horses. This helped me save money.

I love the ECP and use equine matrix products. I use their human line too. I have never used cur-ost so I can't answer how they work. I do know the owner of equine matrix and would gladly put you in touch with him. My horses have all responded well to the matrix products I have used and I will continue to use what I know works.

Right off the bat I must tell you that I am NOT a supplement person. I'm just old school and believe in good feeding habits. That being said, I have had 2 different high strung mares that have suffered from severe ulcers. One of them spent over a week in the hospital and almost died. They both at one time totally quit eating and drinking. After the first experience dealing with the ulcers, I worked out a maintenance plan that seemed to work but was quite expensive using ulcergard and aloe vera juice. About 8 months ago I overheard some people talking about Curost Stomach. I learned that it did not cost that much so I decided to try it. It was at a time when I needed to do a full month treatment of Ulcergard. My mare is very good about telling me when she is ready for that about every 6 months or so. It becomes extremely painful to brush her. So I started her on the loading dose of Curost. I did not notice any difference in that first week like I did when I started the Ulcergard but I stayed with it and within 3 weeks my horse was back to normal. I have given it to her every day since then and the results are unbelievable. She has always been a terrible eater and I had trouble keeping weight on her even though she had feed in front of her 24/7. I don't think she has taken her head out of the feeder at all in the last 8 months, and she eats on the road like never before. I have not given her 1 dose of Ulcergard in all this time. My horse looks and feels better than she ever has. This is a great affordable product that I highly recommend.

I LOVE CUROST STOMACH!!
I had a horse who's acupuncture points were for hind gut.. I did 30 days of stomach and they were clear.
But I keep him on it; for preventative now!

But I also love MM! I just ordered the GI! We will see how it goes :)
