Is there a way to look up horses owned by a particular owner?  I kind of looked at the AQHA website and didn't see a selection for that information.  I know the owner's name and his approximate age but not sure of the registered name.

No.
Ive even gone so far as to call and ask if they could give me a list of all the horses still registered in my name and they couldn't even do that.

Well darn. My granddaughter rides a horse that we know the owner's name but nothing else. We would like to know how he is bred and how old he is.

Did the old owner stand a stallion? Might be able to track it backwards.

Can you contact the former owner & ask?

The former owner did not stand a stallion.  He came to my son's family when the previous owners got a divorce.  Neither one of them really wanted him.  I believe he is in the wife's name but she does not remember his registered name.  He used to duck the 2nd barrel with her.  The horse became a roping horse after he came to live with my son.  He is an all-around horse now.  Team ropes both ends, breakaway, goat tying, poles (recently started) and barrels (not a 1D horse).

Right, I know.  He has a few quirks. Doesn't always stay tied.  Will sometimes buck when men try to team rope on him.  The ex-husband found out he was doing pretty well and took him back a couple of years ago. He tried to sell him but without knowing his little quirks that did not go too well.  I just wanted to know how he is bred.

It is more important to know the dams name than the sire ....

you can get the produce of the mare very easily ... with the description of each foal and sire.. then call for ownership and match up the horse in question ..

You have me confused ... on why you're interested 2 years after ex-husband took the horse back ... ??

He brought him back when he was a little too quirky for the buyer. lol  He is really a great horse.  I think he just didn't want to leave.  He reallly loves my granddaughter and will do anything for her.

Did you get a bill of sale this time? LOL
Could you do a DNA test with AQHA?  Not sure what the DNA test could tell you. I just remember getting one done on my mare to prove her AQHFoundation percentage and verify her Joe Hancock Percentage.

They did not  get bill of sale.  He has been with them for probably 7 or 8 years.  Ex-husband is a friend and he could legally take him back at any time but we are hoping that doesn't happen.  He is really just a sweetheart.  Low maintenance and you can turn him out with anything.  Not a clue how the DNA stuff works.

DNA through AQHA only works if you know at least one parent & have an idea on the other.
