Hello everyone,
My veterinarian recently recommended that I start looking for some English Hunter Jumper protective type boots for my gelding that protect his inner fetlock and cannon bone area since he tends to hit himself with his other leg on the front. Do any of you have any that you would recommend? I'm not as familiar with the English brands. I've used Relentless boots in the past and since he toes out he rips up the inner lower band around his fetlock area.

Thanks!

I purchased the open front jumper boot - I think one of the two brands is Roma.  They are great - hard shell that they have a harder time tearing up.  Dover saddlery, eBay, Stateline tack etc all carry the open front jumper boots.  Most of the brands are pretty good, please note that the "gel" lined boots are great but heavy.

Eskadrons are my favorite. They last a really long time, have a nice outer shell and are easy to place in the correct position.

Cross Country boots - they can take a beating.  I use Majyk Equipe and Zandona boots.

Thanks "run n rate" I like how the classic equine boots still have a western look. I've used their skid boots before when I did reining a while back and loved them! I didn't even think to look and see if they have the front boots! That's awesome! He really needs protection over the sesmoid area, that is where he recently injured. I was also recommended to turn him out in the future with h/j boots so I might do something similar to you. Thanks!

That's good to know thanks! I was also recommended to use those from some of my friends who ride English. I will check into those too. I liked the look of the X country ones that they have too :)

My gelding had to have some scar tissue removed from the area on the inside of his fetlock joint when he was 5, he had developed a pretty good size lump there. Always rode him in polo's or SMB sports medicine type boots. I always wondered why he wouldn't stretch out and long trot, after I got the Classic Equine boots and you could hear him hitting himself I realized why and it took him about 30 yards to figure out it didn't hurt to long trot anymore too. When I was just looking at fetlock boots again I see these now...I was thinking it maybe time to purchase some new ones for turn out, these look promising.

Meeee!!

The Veredus Carbon Gels are the way to go. Mine are over a year old and are still looking brand new, except for some pretty nasty slices on the hit plates. Those Italians know what's up.

I've got some Eskadrons too, but they're not as well made.

The Veredus boots are expensive, but worth every penny!!

I will admit I have always wondered about their Heel protector boots. They look cool in a sci-fi way.

Those look like a great option for turn out. I didn't know pro choice made those. I like the price too for turn out :)

I'm glad your gelding is doing better now and that those Classic Equines helped. I will definitely look into them! Yeah my 6 year old came up really lame and his whole tendon and fetlock was swollen about about a month ago. We thought he fractured his sesamoid bone, but luckily the xrays haven't shown any cracks, just thinking he bruised it. My vet also thinks he has developed some slight scar tissue. So far the swelling has gone down quite a bit and he is healing well. Still not sure what exactly caused the big blow up, but I'm thinking he might have been playing around in the pasture with my other mare. I think it's been happening for awhile like you said with your gelding. I also have used SMB's and polos in the past too he's always ripped them up. I'm also thinking this might have been why we've had issues getting him to extend and be consistent on his turns. I hate to babysit him for the rest of his life, but it's sounding like it will be needed to keep him sound.

Do they stay pretty ventilated?

The heel protector boots (Yes, I bought them) didn't fit a single horse I had....rats!

The hind ankle boots, and the open front boots are pretty much the bomb. Several of my friends have went to them (my best friend stole my spare set open front boots and didn't even pay me for them, just claimed that I hadn't gotten her a birthday present in years and hahahahaha, which was a **** lie), because they were so impressed with mine. I sold or gave away all of my SMB boots because after using the Veredus boots, they just seemed so hot and dirty. I use Classic Equine bell boots with them. The thing I'm always smug about it the button closure, because they've made me completely lazy. Velcro what?

They're definitely worth it to me!

Very. And they have a really tight seal around the edge, you don't get a lot of dirt in there.

Great. Now I found the Grand Slam Carbon Gel Boots and I'm contemplating on spending $238.50 on a set of front boots....
My SO thanks you classicpotatochip

Update: My So has been sent pictures. All I got back was: "So do you need these or are these a want? "  Uhm, NEED! Just kidding I told him the truth. He said Christmas. Maybe.

I'm in the same vote "IRunOnFaith"! I'm thinking I just might add them to my Christmas list for my parents! That way my SO won't find out how much they actually cost! haha He would give me crap for it for years! I would get lots of comparisons with his dirtbike and motorcycle. LOL!
