Has anyone experienced "jaw drop" or Trigeminal Neuralgia in a dog??
My pup's jaw has been slighlty drooped down since the weekend and otherwise acting normally. He is having difficulty drinking
(water falls out
) and eating kibbel
(been feeding canned food over weekend
). Appointment today but wanted to see if anyone else has dealt with this?
Apparently it can come on and resolve itself with no real known cause?

Any kind of inflammation or physical impingement can cause the nerve to act up, misfiring or not working at all. Are his ears clean and bug free? Has he been jerked by the collar recently?
I had this for about 4 years because of a brain tumor. When my neck got tight, it was worse. I was numb off and on in the lower left quadrant of my face, and my sense of taste would be weird sometimes, like super sensitive to salt.

Thank you for the reply! I'm sorry to hear you deal with this yourself!
I am not aware of any trauma at all. He only has a collar on when we go someplace and is "naked" in the house :

Other than his difficulty drinking and eating
(less so than drinking
) he's acting normally. His ears are clean and are not appearing to bug him at all. Not itchy or painful or anything like that. He's like my kid, so if something is off I see it right away.

Diagnosis of Hypothyroidism - medication for 6 weeks to bring the level up and we are cautiously optomistic that the jaw issue will resolve itself as his #s get where they need to be. In the mean time, medication in a bite of cheese and soft foods have my boy on cloud nine. :
