Location: "Si Fi" Ville | I would like to purchase a really good broodmare but I'm having trouble trying to figure out the best way to go about it...buy an own daughter of certain stallions who have daughters that are producers. Or try to purchase a "blue hen" known producer or ? |

| Broodmare are something that are truly personal opinion. Some people kind of want to start their own line. Some have a favorite barrel horse that they want a foal out of. I want foals that are going to sell so I look at strong mare lines. A personal favorite is First Down Dash. Dash Ta Fame is always good. Look at the stallions that are the top barrel horse producers and go with daughters of these. Mr Jess Perry is an extension of the Streakin Six line. Mares off the track are often a direction to go. This is just my personal opinion and I am sure that others have different opinions. |

| In almost 99% of the pedigrees you see, the very last line on the maternal side is the one that always has a hole in it. Go with known broodmare sires and find a pedigree that is stacked with known broodmare sires throughout the maternal side. You also need the conformation to match the pedigree. It doesn't matter how good the papers look if the mare isn't structurally correct.
We have a mare that I have no doubt will be a producer. She's by Takin On The Cash and out of a Bully Bullion daughter. The Bully daughter is out of a Royal Quick Dash daughter, who is out of a Hempen daughter, who is out of a Go Flight daughter that produced numerous Stakes horses. All the sires in her pedigree are on the Top 100 Leading Broodmare Sires Of All Times. That's what I mean by stacking the pedigree.

Location: "Si Fi" Ville | Does anyone have a link to 100 top broodmare sires? I would like to give it a look over.
As far as broodmares go, i always look at confirmation and temperament. But I also look at breeding as well.

Temperament can be a funny thing. I don't worry about that so much. I've seen rip mares have very sweet babies time after time. I've seen sweet mares have babies with awful attitudes. Temperament is a crap shoot. Especially if it's man made. Unless you know the history, there could be a very good reason why any horse hates people.
Speedhorse usually has the Top 100 Broodmare Sires. |

 Can You Hear Me Now?
Location: When you hit the middle of nowhere .. Keep driving | It all depends on your budget. A proven producer will often be more expensive then a daughter out of a producing line... unless your talking DTF or something then usually you can expect $$$ regardless.
I've worked hard and got both but stuck to the same thing SKM has said... stack them as much as possible. I went for strong bottom lines and out of as big of a name as I can afford. I've managed to collect own daughters of First Down Dash o/o a strawfly special mare, holland ease o/o a daughter of strawfly special/merridoc, fishers dash o/o a daughter of chicks beduino/ loose lips herself, Runnaway Winner o/o a daughter of six fols. I also have a daughter of reckless dash o/o a world champion producing Shawne bug/TB daughter that's not as stellar pedigree wise with big stacked names but produced almost $200k. Be patient they will come around. My major thing is to get something that can make selling a foal easier but also something I'd ride (I love strawfly special myself). The major stickler is I got all winners themself as well. |

Location: "Si Fi" Ville | I am willing to spend the money on a couple of super nice mares. I appreciate the feedback. I remember seeing Strawfly Special and almost purchased two of his fillies. I regret not doing it. |

Location: Where I am happiest | If your serious and willing to spend the money then Dash Ta Fame daughters cant be beat.Thats why they show up at the top of leading magic crosses more then any other. Also the big factor , golden rule to remimber is daughters out of producers are most likely to produce multiple winners themselves. |
