In my aging years I have noticed that my knees tend to hurt after a long or hard ride and I tend to loose my stirrups more often during a run than I ever used to. I try to stay fit by working out and ride a lot, however it stills happens every one in a while. Is there a favored stirrup out there? I have looked into the Fast N Forward and the SA Walls but would like some testimonials. I currently ride in the standard aluminum ones that come with a Double J Saddle. Thanks in advance! I have done some digging on here but it never has been a main topic!

I have no advice on what type of stirrups but have u tried raising or lowering ur stirrups a notch or 2? The angle your knees are in can cause pain. I had to raise mine after I finished growing lol but I'm knock kneed

I do ride in a shorter stirrup...about so when I stand up in the saddle, I can fit my hand beetween the seat and me.  I will mess with the lenght tho this week and see if that helps!

I have an old knee injury and the only stirrups that alleviate the pain for me are the slanted SA walls. Anything else and I am in a ton of pain within minutes.

Yes, if you want knee relief, get the slanted stirrups!

I used to ride in Walls Slanted stirrups - they were "ok" for me but 2 things I especially did not like were .... they always made me feel like my foot was really tight in them - that if I were to do an "accidental" dismount, I would get hung up.  The other thing was the sore shins from the heavy aluminum stirrups banging on them when I carried my saddle.  I tried Nettles Handmade wooden stirrups a few years ago & LOVE them - so much so, I became a dealer.  I like the various styles they have, and you can get them fancy too if you like.  They do have them in a cheaper model - only 4 layers - but I use & suggest the premier ones (6 layers).  The wood layers "give" and your joints feel so much better from that, plus I've had lots of customers tell me they don't lose their stirrups anymore either.

I agree with this for the most part.  I like my Walls pretty well too but they are heavy and hurt when they hit your shins! I LOVE my wood Nettles.

Nettles or CROOKED Stirrups of Hico, TX.

Ask for the close contact barrel.
CROOKED Stirrups are by your boot size and Nettles are whether or not you want a close contact style or a longer style. I have the Petite close contact barrel 6-ply by Nettles and get them used at Teskey's for like $45 bucks. I also ride in the CROOKED economy finish original roper style stirrups.
Love them both for different reasons. I like the nettles because they don't hurt my shins and I can ride all day with them. I love my CROOKEDs because they are aluminum so they still have a bit of weight to them but not much. It's enough that if I lose them while roping I can easily find them.

I've been a die hard fan of the walls stirrups, then someone recommended the nettles slanted and sts stirrups. I bought a pair of both, and hands down the STS stirrups are now on all my saddles. They are light, don't feel like I'm going to lose them and my ankles/knees feel great.

They make barrel racing slanted stirrups, you don't have to get the heavy, wide roper ones.  Mine are the twisted AND slanted Walls, I won't ride without them.  When I do, I pay for it later.  I used to get horrible leg cramps in my right leg while riding.  No more since I started using these stirrups.  (I had a horse flip over on my right leg years ago, probably due to that)

I have the original crooked stirrups and I prefer them over normal stirrups but my ankles do hurt a little.  It's almost like the pain went from the knee to the ankle.  But not with everyday riding.  Like when I go on longer trail rides.  My but @ss hurts on those also haha.

Mom interested in trying the Nettles and or the fast n forward.

I have a pair of slanted and twisted on each of my saddles-so much easier on my knees, hips and feet.  Rubber bottoms help so you don't easily loose a stirrup plus I don't feel like I would get hung up in them-and believe me it seems like I've tried out the theory a few times

I use Kroes stirrups, they are slated and light, they also have rubber on them to help keep your foot in. I have knee problems and I absolutely love mine!

Best money I have spent...Nettles Halfbreed Premium Stirrups. I find that you don't even think about your feet, or worry about losing a stirrup.

RockyRoad told me about the Nettles half breed stirrups and I finally had zero knee pain and I never lost a stirrup running barrels with them. I was told by 2 different orthos I need a full knee replacement. Had terrible knee pain before trying the Nettles and I went through the Crooked, Slanted Walls etc.

My sister has RA and couldn't keep her feet in stirrups for longer then 10 minutes. I bought her a pair of the Nettles and she can now ride without pain.
