Location: Montana | ...yesterday if anyone cares to help me with saddle fit. The pad I have on her in the pics is about 1 inch thick, as a friend suggested I try a thicker pad. I didn't like the way it worked at all (made my issues much worse), so I'm going back to the other pad (3/4" Classic Equine with wither relief). So, I'm riding in a Courts barrel saddle with 7" gullet and FQHB. The issue(s) that I was having initially are rolling, then with this different pad the saddle was popping up in the back and rolled much worse. I understand she is only a coming 3 year old and has growing to do, but I need something ride her in that doesn't roll so bad because if she throws in any playfulness it is really hard to stay centered. I understand her withers haven't grown yet, but there has to be a better way. And no, I don't have the saddle cinched on yet in the pics and I double checked to make sure I positioned it correctly on her back. I'm thinking I may need flatter bars with wider bar angles? But I'm open to all suggestions! Thanks in advance!

Location: Under The Big Sky Of Texas | I think if you tent the pad as in pull it up in the gullet it might work better for you with less rolling.. Do you have any pictures without saddle? |

Location: Montana | streakysox - 2017-01-29 7:31 PM Ticket pad makes a saddle roll more I only had one other choice for a thicker pad as I generally don't have much need for a thicker pad and it is around 34" long (its a Reinsman...I've had it for years and haven't had a horse with a long enough back for it in a while), so I picked this one. Overall I have had good luck with that pad...just not on this particular horse. I've tried tenting before too, maybe I'm not a good tent-er, LOL, as I've not been very successful at it. My Classic Equine pad is a Contourpedic, and I really like it. I'll try to post some other pics...most of my other pics are before winter when she wasn't so hairy (we had -20 weather for over a month until last week!).
ETA: Sorry about the shadows...I don't know if my places to tie or just the angle of our sun produces a lot of shadows.

Location: Southerner | Your baby has "big" shoulders. Wide wide wide! Delt with this for years on mine. Double J saddlerey sets the tree on their back to see which fits best. Problem solved! |

That's what I thought and what I try to explain to people, but most people wouldn't believe it about a coming 3 y/o. So I thought maybe I was wrong as I don't claim to know a lot about saddle fit, I just know I need something to ride her in and I had no idea where to go from here. I wish we had a Double J dealer nearby. We do have a Martin dealer...maybe they will be able to help. :)
