Location: Texas | I started my equine theriogenology (reproduction) rotation on Monday. We are very lucky that we have a large teaching herd of mares, and they schedule two hours every morning for us to palpate. I've been so worried that because of my size I wouldn't be able to reach all the structures I need. I love breeding horses and was seriously concerned I wouldn't be able to do it.. but guess what- I CAN REACH! I also did my first BSE on a mare and have collected a couple stallions. I am loving it so far!
I will say, the cons of being a short person are I get covered in poop/lube because I do have to get pretty close to their hind ends to find everything. I'm still working on how to not get filthy. Thankfully they make waterproof palpation shields that cover one side of your body...I will have to invest in that. I went to the cafeteria for lunch today and one of the residents asked if I had poop on my face. I said it was very possible.. LOL |

oh gosh cows are the worst. Horses you at least take out the poop under your control. Cows just poop everywhere, any time, any consistency... not a fan of cows! |

| I will never forget the episode of Dr Pol where he pulls a calf with a chain without a shirt on. Bare chested in winter. Shoulder deep on bare skin. Lol his son asks on the way home why he did that and he said in vet school they taught them that so the vets wives wouldn't have to worry about horrible laundry!! |
