I've had the Babe brand tape in extensions before and was happy with them. You just have to take care of them! Mine never became knotted at all and I kept them in for 6 weeks at a time. I'm actually about to have them put back in, my hair is finally long enough to blend after chopping it off into a pixie cut last year.

If you can afford them, Mermaid Extensions for sure. But I think they'll run you somewhere in the $1200-1500 range. Thats what Fallon wears lol.

I think I paid around around $400 for the Babe, plus whatever my stylist charged me to install them.

I will say you have to be prepared for the hair on the floor when they remove them. It looks like a lot, but it's really just your daily fallout that couldn't actually fall out bc it was attached via the extensions. When I had mine taken out and went natural, my hair was its normal thickness and healthy. No damage at all.

Bellami clip ins. I bought them specifically for my wedding. They're so comfortable, and really stay in place. Plus they're sooooo soft. They're a little pricey, but definitely worth it.

Get clip ins.
Make sure you can take the hair out of the bag before you purchase.
Check the hair. If it is stringy and thin, pass.
Get hair extensions 3-4" longer than what you are wanting. This will allow you to trim the ends making the extensions look healthy and not stringy. (Always get a hair dresser to trim them after they are in place.)
Get you a good extension cleaner and always GENTLY soft brush the hair before putting it away in a bag. Light will damage them when stored.
Also, get one closest to your hair color and take them to your hair dresser so she can get YOUR hair to match the extensions. Never dye extensions. Even if they say you can. Never comb extensions. Never use a hard bristle brush on them and never put them up dirty. They will last a long time if you follow those rules.

ETA: Get real human hair extensions. Pricier but last longer and can be used with heat to flat iron or curl. They are also softer. Always use a lower heat setting on them and be gentle so you don't pull the hair out of the clip....

HeadKandy is the best brand I have ever used *clip in*.
I believe my set was around $400 and I have had them for 7 years at this point.

I am going to go against the advice of one poster above me and say DO NOT have a hair dresser cut them. I did this. But my hair style has changed over the last 7 years and I wish I had just left them intact.

For clip ins I've heard good things about Bellami (sp) and I had Irresistible me. I had their cheaper ones, which were nice, but I'd get their higher end line. I still haven't decided which brand I want to get for my upcoming wedding.
