So I've seen some pics of rodeo gals and even good 1D horses and riders in my area and I'm seeing a few without any breastcollars on..what's the ideas behind this? Not tugging on their chest in the turns or? Just curious if some of you run with or without and have noticed a difference at all?

I used one on my barrel saddle only because I had a horse that needed it. I used it on all my horses because I was too lazy to take it on and off each different horse. :) I no longer ride that horse so have taken it off as it just gets muddy/sweaty and I have to clean it.

Depends on the horse and the event. I've had a couple that had to have breast collars or the saddle would slip back. My current horses can all be ridden without them. A well fitted breast collar shouldn't hinder their shoulder action, but many just flat don't fit the many builds of horses that are out there. Of course, if I was roping I wouldn't go without one.  For me, it would probably just be used as a fashion statement and not a necessary piece of equipment. There are others that will strongly disagree with this, but that's why we all get to have opinions :-)!

Also depends on the horse for me. My gelding saddle slips back but he does seem to like not wearing it. I do flat work without but always run him with one. if I have a horse that doesn't need one, I likely wont use it.

There was an entire discussion devoted to this a few weeks ago. Falon Taylor thing. Do a search in the forum and you should be able to find it.
