Extreme Veteran Posts: 564 Location: South Dakota	I have a standard double j, which I love but as I continue to build my mares front end, it seems as though it's getting too tight. I have larger than fist size dry spots behind her shoulders and the saddle in general appears to not sit down far enough in front (back fits perfect). How do I know if I need the #10 tree or the wide? What is the real difference from tree to tree? I don't want to be spending 3000 on a #10 only to find out I need the wide tree. Please help! and happy Tuesday everyone :)

Please help! and happy Tuesday everyone :) Here is the response I got when I asked for the difference in the #11 and the #10. Maybe this will help. "Both are for horses that are high in the hip. #11 has more rock in the bar than #10. It usually fits a sway backed horse. Both are custom fits & you should have a saddle fitter help you to see if your horse needs one of these fits. Call us @ 1-800-669-2535 for more info" Keep in mind these trees are a "custom fit" for a certain type of horse. They won't fit every wide backed horse. Always consult an actual professional before buying. Call Double J. Send pictures. Makes sure you can return the saddle if it does not fit properly. Send pictures of the saddle sitting without a pad without a cinch on the horses back to double J to insure it fits correctly. Send pictures of the saddle cinched down with a pad underneath to insure it fits properly. Then send a picture of you sitting int he saddle cinched down with a pad on the horses back to double J to insure it fits. Double J should be able to help you.

Please help! and happy Tuesday everyone :) The #10 tree has more rock to the bars. I have one of each. The wide fits my flat backed, wide shouldered mare perfectly with a 3/4 inch pad. The #10 I bought for a mare who was super wide in the shoulders, but had more wither and not so flat backed. Email Phillip at Double J, and he will have you send pictures of your horse to him. He recommended the wide for my mare and it fits great.

A Somebody to Everybody Posts: 41354 Location: Under The Big Sky Of Texas	You need to call Double J to get the right answers, but a #10 tree has more rock to it, built for horses that have more of a dip behind their shoulders. I do have the wide and #10 tree. And the wide is for your heavier built horse that are wider threw their shoulders. But calling Double J would be the way to go for the answers you are looking for.

Elite Veteran Posts: 883 Location: Southern Indiana	If your standard fits fine but is just tight, go with a wide tree. Like the others said the #10 is for a horse with more contour to their back. Your better off to have a tree that's a little flat vs one that has too much rock.
