I am beyond proud of this big horse. Streak was a rescue, my back burner project for a few years, and this winter, he's finally gotten to be a priority. He ran in the very very bottom of the 2D late in December, and we continued to work on his footwork to the right through the past couple months. It showed up yesterday as he uncorked this run. 14.941 and the 1D winner was a 14.231. We won't dwell on the fact that my other big sorrel ran a 14.1 but pulled second over leaving it......
The point is Go Streak!

I like those horses that are not bred perfect, don't have a babied life, that come back and end up being jam up horses!!! Were they using 1 second splits at the race??? Out here if a 14.2 won it, a 9 would be in 2D, but either way, nice run!

Oh yeah, it's 1/2 1/2 whole, so he wasn't far out of the 2D money. My boyfriend was 3rd in the 2D with a 14.75 and Streak ran a 14.941.
He's actually bred really nicely (First Down Dash grandson out of a Joyful Hope mare) but ran into some hard times (because he is a pasture wimp) and nearly starved to death before TurnLane found him and he convinced her to save him. I actually think he'll be a great youth or old lady horse by the end of the year because he'll get more solid on that first barrel and be darn near automatic. He's very calm and easy to handle as long as you aren't intimidated by his sheer size. (16 hands barefoot and probably pushing 1300 pounds).

Thank you all! He's a big sweetheart and I just couldn't be more proud of him. Not only did he make this very nice run, he also served as a pre-exhibition babysitter for my old gelding and his new youth rider......even though I didn't have time to saddle him - I just hopped on bareback and headed to the barn to help keep Joker calm. Then, Joker's jockey ran into some difficulties and I hopped off Streak, left him standing by the fence between two horses we didn't know, and when I came back from lining Joker out, he was still standing in the same spot, watching his buddy lope the pattern. #whotaughthimtogroundtie #notme

I was about to give up on him making any type of competitive barrel horse but decided I wanted him at least in the 2D so he'd be easier to sell if I decided to find him a new rider, so my boyfriend and I both put in some extra time with him and he's really blossomed this spring. Now of course, I don't want to sell him. LOL.

Thank you.
We had to put more pressure on him than was ideal because my youngest brother didn't have anything else to lope through the pattern on at the county fair, and he'd given us the OK to sell his horse in order to make room for Streak. I wish I'd had the time I have now to put into Streak 4 years ago, but at least he wasn't a hot mess and didn't end up blown up.

For obvious reasons I haven't been able to keep up with you like I was a few years ago so I was so excited to see your post.  You are doing such a nice job with all your horses.  Keep up the good work.

When I went to the YouTube link, the next video suggestion was your run on streak in the same pen exactly a year ago, and it was a 15.8!
Awesome improvement!!!

Don't get too excited......the pattern changes in there from race to race for some reason, but he is getting a lot closer to the top! A year ago I was excited to have him mid 3D and this time he was in the top half of the 2D.

Thank you. I just had his hocks done and was excited that he worked so well. We'd been having first barrel issues but he was dialed in on Sunday.
