Has anyone moved a house (not a trailer house or modular home) onto your property to live in? We are looking at this as an option. Was it very expensive? Did the house need a lot of work? Anything you can tell me good/bad would be helpful.

One of our family members does this for a living.I do not know how expensive it is but he also does block and brick so he doesn't have many issues once the house is set.however I have no idea what the actual home owner experiences after the move.

I have, but it was 18 years ago. I live about 30 miles east of Houston, so I used Cherry House movers a company that was buying a lot of homes to be moved in older neighborhoods. I bought the home from them, so we paid a lot more than buying the house from the actual owner. The actual owner of the house gave Cherry $10 to have the house moved by a certain date, I paid $40,000 for the house and that was moved and set up on my property. It is a house built in 1938, had one owner, in a really nice area called West University, that community has strict laws about there trees and stuff, so the house had to be cut in half and the roof taken off. When Cherry set it up on my property technically we could of lived in it, but we had a lot of work done to it, re-wired, insulation, new sheetrock, we kept all the doors and trim so they had to be stripped and re painted, new roof, hardi plank siding. We spent another $40,000 on to, but in the end we had a solid little well built house! Cherry had cheaper houses for sale, but were in poor condition, after looking at some my husband looked for the most expensive house they had and when we saw it we knew it was a nice well built house that had been taken care of!

Yes, we've done it. Soooooo many variables to get a price. Size of the house, type of foundation, one story or two, distance it's travelling, number of low power lines between point A and B, etc etc.

The house I live in now was actually a third story "apartment" to an old farmhouse. The house was moved and the couple decided to make it a two story and sold us the third story. We had to add a kitchen and the stair well is where I have my washer and dryer, but it wasn't too expensive for them to move. They rolled the price into the price of the house. I think we only paid $15k for the house. We had to build a pad and pay to get it set up and pay for plumbing, etc but that wasn't much either.
ETA: the most expensive part was redoing the sheetrock and building a kitchen.
