| I've been looking on Ebay for a new or used barrel saddle. I'd like to stay under $700. I see a bunch on Ebay, no name brands for $400 or so..like this..

| Ugh. Run away. The trees are crap. You have no recourse if it doesn't fit your horse (and it won't) because you can't resell it.
$700 will get you a decent used saddle. Go find your local tack shop, or one of the decent online retailers who will talk to you and take wither tracings. |

Most of the saddles in store aren't even online. I would deal with Jeff if he's still there. 
ETA: The saddles you found are garbage. They'll sore your horse up and you won't be able to give them away....

Location: Oklahoma | Denim and Tack in Chouteau , OK has usually at least a half doz of very reasonable used good maker barrel saddles all the time . I have sold a lot there. She often has them posted on various FB groups but is very busy and doesn't always get them on . Just FB message her or call Karen at 918-698-0712 . |

| CORRIENTE saddles are a nice entry level saddle seem to fit most horses, attractive, and hold up pretty well. You will have to check their website as everything has gone up in price but used to run in the $500 range. I have several Billy Cook saddles (Sulfur OK) that I paid about $750 for, but I am sure they are more now. |

This exactly - those saddles on ebay are what I refer to as "cardboard" saddles. They are made with cheap leather and not well put together. I would go with a used, well-made saddle - for safety reasons if no other! |

TOTALLY AGREE WITH THIS. You are better off with a used older good brand name saddle than the cheaper saddles you are looking at. And if you absolutely must go new then go with a corriente like the other poster said.

| Nope nope nope! I knew a lady that bought one of those ebay saddles. First time on a horse and one round of bucking that saddle fell apart. Looked like it was made with layers of paper. |

Location: North Dakota | Shop for a nice used saddle. The only brand of saddle I would ever consider buying new in that $700 range would be a Corriente. You can get a brand new one for around $600 some styles are $800 but it all depends on how you want to customize it. For the price they are a pretty quality saddle that fit quite a few horses well. Of course they do not compare to a Coats, Roo, or Stoney but then again you aren't paying $4k...lol. But I prefer a quality, broke in used saddle over a cheap new one any day. Look around on the facebook tack swap pages. You should be able to find something in your price range pretty easy. Also make sure to consider what saddle should fit your horse the best. |

I've bought saddles off Ebay, & have been happy with them. However, I am very picky n if "my gut" says there's something off about the saddle I move on!!!!

Location: Kansas | I agree on corriente saddles. Also check out those barrel racing tack swap pages, you can find a nicely used barrel saddle for under $700 shipped. Those cheap ones on ebay.....the trees crack quicker than you can blink an eye, and can lame up a horses back....so in reality, you will spend more in vet/chiro bills than on the saddle itself |

As far as Double T, I've never had one, but I when I see a lot of ads for people searching for a saddle, an alarming number of them state "No Double T" - not sure any details on that.
There are a lot of facebook groups that have used saddles for sale - a lot at decent prices.
So many different saddles are made with the same kind of tree, so you kind of have to know what you are needing, because you can change brands and not really change the fit. Wimpyb on here, mentioned that a long time ago and after trying over 60 saddles and reading about more, she's right.
I have a 21 year old horse I was letting a youth run rodeos on - I've always struggled with his saddle fit --- last month I decided to try something new and pulled an old trophy playday saddle my brother won in the 90's out of my parents' dusty barn and let the girl try it on him - old ralide tree Courts - I had to put new fenders and latigos, and conchos on, but my horse went from running 20.7 / 20.9 poles with the girl to running 20.1 /20.2 in poles, and started running faster times in barrels, as well. Thin pad, no dry spots.
I learned to care much more about fit and function, than looks, a long time ago.
eta ---- I will elaborate on what I said above about not buying new at that price range, and will say maybe an exception is Corriente --- I have had one....although it did not work for my horse.
