I hate cooking and cleaning Posts: 3314 Location: Jersey Girl	Need some opinions.....I have just been cleared back to ride after not being able to for the last year and a half. Keep in mind I am trying to take things slowly to get back into it. I am hoping to be back to running by the end of the year. In January (when I still wasn't supposed to be riding) I bought a really nice QH gelding. Nice solid foundation, just needing consistent work and would be ready to learn the pattern. My thoughts were to take it slow, while working with a trainer pattern this one myself since there is no hurry. BUT he can be stubborn and lazy......he really needs to go to someone for 2 weeks to get him back to a work frame of mind. Now that I am actually able to ride and have seen patterned horses in my price range..... I just want to skip all that training nonsense and get a horse that already knows the pattern. But I don't want to do too much too soon and have a set back. Your thoughts? (sorry for the long post) Edited by fulltiltfilly 2017-04-14 7:22 AM

Elite Veteran Posts: 915 Location: SE KS	You sound like you kinda have made a decision, if you could sell the gelding & get one already going, there's no reason why you still can't take it slow. You will need time to "get with" a new horse!!!

When I realized I had been riding my horse (who was patterned when I bought him, but needed to be seasoned) for a year and a half and hadn't progressed at all, I sadly decided to sell him to buy a finished horse. I was SO attached to him and I cried when he left, BUT.....that was months ago and now I rarely think about him. I bought a proven 1D horse with an AMAZING mind. He goes whatever pace I ask. I held him back at our first show last month and ran a 3D time. Last weekend, I went to a clinic with him out on by a top pro barrel racer. On Tuesday, she sent me a message in Facebook asking if I'd consider selling him to her for her to pro rodeo on!!!!!! So - I'M not there with him and will never be pro, but I'm having the time of my life with him and it's so exciting to know that he'll run at half speed with me until I'm ready to let him go faster. I would say that if you can find a finished horse with a sound mind and calm demeanor, sell your prospect.
