| If you could pick between these two, who would you breed to? I have a daughter of Merridoc that I am trying to decide who to breed to.. |

| If she's a daughter of Merridoc, I'd go with FG. Reason being is that Anchor Watch, Rocket Bar has been proven that it can result in a sway back. Merridoc is that cross as is DTF. I just wouldn't want to risk doubling up on my chance of a sway back because a lot of people won't buy one. Doesn't matter if it's been proven that a sway back is no big deal. People usually want something that looks good. |

| SKM has a good point. But I'd go with DTF because by the magic cross numbers, DTF has been very successful on Merridoc, with more than 15 horses earning more than $400K. Frenchmans guy on the other hand hasn't had any from that cross earn a penny that I'm aware of. |

| Frenchmans Fabulous for sure. I have a colt that is amazing. Love love love his mind. Athletic, handsome and loving. Has been so easy to train and pattern. Out of of a Colonel Freckles descendant mare.
Either way would be good but my vote is FMF |

I can't hardly believe that anyone knows where sway backs are coming from. I mean we don't even know for sure if navel hernias, parrot mouth and cryptorchism is hereditary. Some say yes and some say no or both. So to pick one horse 5 generations back and say it's coming from him and it's recessive is really stretching. Let me share my reasoning. It would have to be recessive because people have said, they've bred sway backed mares and they never had a foal who was sway backed. That means it isn't hereditary as a simple dominant or they would have a statistical 50% sway backed foals. So it would have to be recessive.
Years ago I had a foal born with a hump back and curvature of the spine. He was beautiful otherwise. He never would have been ridable with a saddle and who in their right mind would breed to that? So I sent him to the killers. Where did that come from? The mare had 4 other foals, all perfectly formed. The stallion didn't have a defect because I saw him.
Even the things we can TEST for are not a slam dunk known to originate with xxxxx horse. Example: Even though they said definitively that HYPP comes from Impressive, years later they say it's actually coming from his mother because she had one other foal with HYPP. Another person was spreading the rumor that parrot mouth was coming from FDD. What? That was news to me. |

He'll be at the top of the market until we run outta semen AND by earnings that cross has been proven far more successful. |

Yup. Far more successful.
I would breed with the numbers. The data doesn't lie. |
