So my mare had a bad stifle to begin with but it has healed enough to where she would trot and occasionally lope. Although it wasn't pretty it must not have been hurting her that bad. She never lays down on that side because she can't get it under her but when she was foaling the foal had a leg parallel with its nose and she got up and went down with her bad leg on the bottom and when she got up something popped really loud and now she won't put any weight on it and can't get around, she is about to founder the off leg putting all the weight on it. Had a vet/chiro come and it popped a few times and she will at least flex it under her. Lazered it too but she's still bad. Going to have a vet come to X-ray and ultrasound tomorrow.

Anyone had a mare screw up a stifle while foaling?

What works best for a stifle as far as pentosan, polyglycan, etc?

SOmething that severe I would say inject directly into the joint. If she had an old stifle injury and was still running and needed some maintenance I would go with pentosan. But souds to me she needs some pretty immediate relief so my vote is to have the stifle injected.

You might check on having the stifle blistered.  Worked on a young mare years ago and she has never taken another bad step.  Just depends .... but it's woth checking.

She is just weak through there I guess. She did a fibrotic myopathy on the inside of the back leg and it slowed her down to 2D so I decided to breed her and run her occasionally but then she slipped in the pasture when it was muddy and tore the cruciate two years ago on the other side.

The vet said to wait for imaging first. I injected last time she damaged it but I would also like to give some extra help, she's in bad shape.

If you are treating for just the locking up issue, I'm dealing with this right now.  Blistering is definitely an option but there are newer methods that can be effective too.  There is the option of surgery (2 types - one cuts the ligament, the other makes small incisions on the ligament) or injecting with estrogen (Estrone).  The Estrone is the least invasive as it's just an intermuscular shot.

But it sounds like you are dealing with lots of issues with your mare so definitely radiographs and ultrasound IMO before you do anything.
