OT: Feet surgery

Was told today that I need both feet surgery I have had some surgeries before but this one got me really apprehensive! Financially if I do this surgery I will have to do one foot first and four weeks later the other and be off work for 12 weeks. If I do one foot at a time I will be off work 8 weeks at a time on each foot. So I am gonna have to suck it up and get both done so I only miss 3 months work stead of 4 . I wish I had found this out last year stead of this year bc horse was hurt all last year and now he is back to running really nice and I don't want another break! I can put surgery off til winter. Course will be getting a second opinion. Anyone had both feet done same time?

RE: OT: Feet surgery
What type of surgery and how extensive? I had only 1 foot done a few years ago - bunion and fix the toe next to it. Since I work in an office, I could work with a walking boot after about 4 weeks. I also used a knee crutch - wheeled cart essentially that you rest your lower leg on and scoot along. I need to get the other one done. A sister had both bunions done many years ago, but I don't think that was the best idea. She has had issues with her feet since. Now, it might have been from the surgeon, but I do know that with both feet done, the tendency is to walk on them too soon.
I would think that you will need quite a bit of help during your convalescence, so a spouse, significant other or kids will help you with that. If you do one at a time and use a knee cart, perhaps you can go back to work a bit sooner? The cart can be rented at a medical supply place. Even with the cart, a cane was helpful. I don't have enough upper body strength anymore to use crutches.
Good luck.

Bunions on both feet and the outside bones are going towards the outside and making my toes go to the inside. Hope that makes sense. Have an awesome hubby so no worries there and a mom that lives two houses down that will help! I work in a casino vault and we are not allowed to wear anything like a wrap or brace. and for sure not have any contraptions to help. so will have to be release 100% to be able to work. I decided that I will wait til winter, I would rather miss riding in the cold than summer! Oh and have a couple friends that has volunteer to run my horse while I'm laid up! lol my horse doesn't go anywhere without me so they will have to take care of me too!

I'm going to get this done this winter too, but I think I'm only going to do one foot, wait one year, and then do the other. I think I'll be too anxious to walk to do both of them and slow the healing process anyhow. Good luck!
