Veteran Posts: 232 Location: Winging It in KY	Had a hail storm come through back in the Spring. We are putting a new roof on the barn. Does anyone have any experiences, good or bad, with the clear ridge cap to let light in. We have had skylights forever but it seems that every time we get hail storms, they are the first to get holes and have to be replaced. Thinking of replacing the skylights with this clear ridge cap. Any thoughts would be great.

The Bling Princess Posts: 3411 Location: North Dakota	I live where hail is a real threat every summer and because of this our builder refused to put a clear ridge cap on our barn. We went with plastic poly panels on the sidewalls, just under the eve. Less likely to get hailed out. Not sure when you replace the roof if they couldn't put some of those in on the side walls?

Veteran Posts: 232 Location: Winging It in KY	Have seriously thought about doing that for the arena. My stall side already has windows on the back wall over the stalls. I hate to give up my skylights because of the lighting and the warmth it puts into the barn during the winter but am tired of replacing them. They are made of polycarbide which is supposed to withstand a baseball but after a few years, they don't. I assume the clear ridge cap will be made from the same material so I was a little apprehensive.

Veteran Posts: 227 Location: fixin to change	We've had the clear ridge cap for 30 years and never had an issue besides it has faded and cloudy now. We live in Kansas so there is all kinds of weather here and it hasn't ever broke.
