Why do people feed both? I am guilty of this myself and one day it dawned on me why both? So I have cut out the alfalfa pellets and feeding alfalfa hay.
(this is not the only thing Im feeding them by the way
)

I just read the headlines

When I did it, it was because I feed supplements and I wanted to make sure they got them, also I would wet the pellet down in high summer months for added water. I don't do this anymore, I just feed alfalfa cubes. I don't trust the feed stores here to know where the alfalfa hay comes from or to know what cutting it was, so I feed cubes now

I never just feed pellets. so ill feed pellets and hay, because I like how pellets make them look but they need the roughage.

I used to feed both, but we have excellent alfalfa hay so I switched out my pellets for a little oats with their Platinum Performance and couldn't be happier!
From what I understand people will feed alfalfa pellets to help stretch out their hay....or to have something for their supplements to stick to
(wet of course
).
