We picked up our first rodeo check last week...

I passed on entering the one we are at tonight because team roping is enter twice and I figured there would be a pile of them, my luck I'd be buried in a pile of barrel slack and get 2 hours of sleep before my hour drive to work.

Husbands TR runs are close so I came along to ride his head horse...not THAT many team ropers and not very much barrel slack at all - plus a perfect pen for my horse. UGH!!!

When in doubt...enter the rodeo...

I keep telling myself I'll be sick of them by this time in 2 weeks...

When in doubt i always enter. Its easier to turn out then regret not having a spot! I love rodeos so much better than jackpots/Open barrel races. My horse really likes the whole one and done too lol He hates running anytime past 11-midnight. (he's a diva needs his beauty sleep

In hindsight, I made the right decision. Team roping slack was a cluster f*** to say the least. We should have been home at midnight and didn't pull out until 12:30. Had I entered and been in slack it easily would have been 2am before we left, I have no doubt. I would probably pass on going to another rodeo put on by this particular contractor...

I have a sstrong feeling I know where you were. They don't run slack very quickly, that's for sure. I've gone to Mount Ayr and Centerville both in the past but didn't make the trip(s) this year because we had a $500 added barrel race 6 miles from my house on Tuesday and I didn't think it would be worth 5 hours of driving just for Mt. Ayr even though it's been good to me in the past. I hope it doesn't cost me an IRA buckle at the end of the year.

We skipped Mt Ayr, weeknight rodeos are just tough on me until I can find a new job closer to home. Next week I've managed to schedule some customer visits Friday to avoid having to commute after a 3 hr drive home. Wednesday we are up in Indianola, but at least that's only an hour - I may be a little crazy but I can't wait to get my little dude in that tiny pen! Hah!

I saw you were leading IRA! Congrats! We bought our IRCA and URA cards right off but passed on our IRA cards just because hubby wasn't getting on very well and we knew we'd whoa up at some point.

Thanks! I'm holding my breath on the IRA standings since I haven't hit a check in two weekends. I think I was 1 or 2 out at Fremont and 1 or 2 out at Sabetha.
We'll see you at Indianola! Not sure Matt will get to ride since he cracked a bone in his riding wrist, but my rocket pony worked great last night in Corder so I have high hopes for him there. We just got outrun last night, but an even shorter pattern should be good for his little legs!
I was dreading Afton if it rained just because we're staying on the road through Thursday and I am not planning to bring my mudder so we have room for panels, hay and grain in the LQ trailer, but finally it looks like the rain moved out of the forecast. My gray has been the grand entry horse for two straight nights so he should be really excited to run on Tuesday!

Yep I saw your name on the draw Tuesday and Wednesday!

If it rains at Afton I will pray it travels due east and pounds us as well- we need it!

lenox did not go so well for us, our current seasoning challenge is side gates at the bucking chutes when they're loaded during the perf. He fought me at Whiting on them and harder at Lenox, we ended up leaving like halfway to the timer and then he never really picked up in the 1st and we went by. 2nd and 3rd were fabulous, just long. Oh well, left them up and that's a win over last year for this horse. Luckily we are slack at Afton so we won't have to deal with the bulls and can just work the side gate. I think we are going to take my other horse as well, I haven't made a run on him in over a month but with 2 jackpots next weekend he needs worked. Heck he may get called up if we run into deeper ground again.

I have never gotten along well at Lenox, and it stinks because I love the rodeo! Homemade ice cream, great committee, everything about it except the barrel pattern. :(
I put perf as my preference for both Afton & Indianola......my gray LOVES to be cheered for and I think my little red horse ran extra hard in the perfs at White Cloud and Corder. Now the rain looks like it may hit Indianola, which means I may have to switch horses and throw the slick ground/ mudder in instead. :( see you in a few days!!

Don't count on the rain, seriously I have thrown the forecast out.

Husband won the shootout round in the team roping at Lenox tonight, so yay!!! On to Greenfield tomorrow, see you Tuesday!

Woo hoo for him!! Hope Greenfield went well too!

Forecast now says no rain until Thursday, so I think the little horse gets to go. Whew -- my mudder needs a break because I've been using him as my #2 horse and running him a lot on ground my gray doesn't like. I kind of wish we had room for hay, grain, generator, cooler, water tank and three horses so I could just ride him in grand entries to help chill him out, but I think it will make packing a lot easier if I just take two horses.

Not so much, hubby missed, I tipped but would have been right in there. SO happy and excited for next year with this little horse.

Well darn, but clocking right there is a plus! My little horse was 2/10ths out of a super tough rodeo Thursday and our timing was finally good so I'm excited about Indianola, and I saw just now that I'm 5th out at Afton, which will be great for my gray beast. I don't know if we've ever been in the perf at Afton, but he'll totally dig that crowd noise.
Now I guess that means I have to get my stuff together here so we can leave tomorrow......we still haven't reorganized the tack room or living quarters and I don't know how many pairs of clean jeans I have LOL.

Lol! Story of my life lately. My job tonight while hubby goes and ropes is to get the trailer and barn cleaned and make sure we're ready to rock the rest of the week.

So glad we aren't perf at Afton, I need a side gate without bulls loaded to see if we are still going to act like we're 2.

Rain misses Indianola. I have no idea how my little man feels about mud and i don't think a racetrack pen is where I want to find out. Racetrack pens the rest of the week - he likes them the best so far! It can totally dump on us 45 miles due east though, let it pour!

Ugh. They put rain back in for tomorrow afternoon. All afternoon.

Guess who's the gunner in the barrels? Me.

Guess who had a wreck the last time she ran in mud. Me.

Cue wanting to throw up in my mouth a little. I guess we will see what happens...

We are currently in the trailer while it sprinkles, rains, stops, starts again in Indianola. Super fun!! The arena didn't look bad earlier when we looked at it so I'm hoping all we get is the light showers. At least until the perf is over! I did not bring a rain hat or my helmet. Oops

Ugh. My boss is mad at me because I was wishing away rain lol.

I hope it holds up, at least if it does maybe we can aim to remember that part of this game is, you know, going fast. Kind of forgot that part until after the 2nd last night. Ugh.

I'm sure if it's coming in hot Barry will hustle them along...yes, rain after the perf would work.
