Location: Alabama | I have a horse that started acting a little off the past week or 2, the chiropractor came yesterday and said that, even with stretched, routine vet work and adjustments, my girl was locked up in the pole.
She has always had some issues in the pole and neck since I got her, due to sitting back often with a previous owner(5+ years ago)& she's always holds her head cocked to the side.
My chiro recommend X-rays, mainly out of curiosity cause the bone just feels different to one side than the other, and muscle relaxers because she is so tight in her neck that she doesn't allow any movement in it.
She has a vet apt schedules, but have anyone you had super pole issues in the past & if so how did you manage them and treat them, short and long term |

Location: LA Lower Alabama | The xrays arent just for curiosity. They can show you what happened inside and what may be done about it. Depending on how long it has been I would suspect there isnt much you will be able to fix but maybe they can get you on a path to some sort of relief. |

| A friend has a mare that sounds like yours. She had x-rays done and found a bone spur in her neck. She gives the IM glucosamine and it seems to really help make her comfortable and a little less stiff. |

Location: Mi | PHT Poll Pack. Its not a cure all, but may help with some relief. My mare had some poll problems freqently, I bought a poll pack and started leaving her halter on her during the day and taking it off at night and also using it anytime I had a halter on her. That was 5-6 years ago,and I have noticed a big difference over the years, she went from needing her poll adjusted freqently and being tight to rarely needing it done. |

| I would definitely get x-rays. Just so you know what you're dealing with. Maybe your vet will have a game plan.
I'd also see if massage therapy might help?
I would also recommend the PHT poll pack or fly mask. Not a cure, but should help. |

Location: Ohio girl moved to PA | I also recommend the PHT poll pack or fly mask. Its not a cure all like the others stated but my one guy used to go out in his poll everytime and ever since i got the poll pack hes gone out maybe once. Good luck! |

The horse was really locked up so I had a chiro with much more training than I to look at the horse before attempting to adjust. He came over and between the two of us we felt like the horse needed x-rays before we would adjust. x-rays proved an older fx that looked per Dr Dutton to have new healing. So a very unstable C2/C3 not really C1/Cranial at all. Horse was to have no activity for a good while and then it was injected prior to going back to work as a rope horse.
Never let your horse eat from a slow feed bag, think of the tension from him having to bite then pull the hay. It's a repeative motion that can cause issues. Feed horse from the ground only. |

| You don't want to screw around with neck injuries. Once arthritis sets in, you are living on borrowed time. Trust me, you don't want to ignore this and have it turn into wobblers. Get X-rays ASAP and go from there. |
