Location: Ky | We were there. Awesome race. Awesome experience. We had never been to Ruidoso. This was kind of a bucket list thing. Got there sat evening.
We went to the track on Sunday to just see it and get a feel for things. It's sorely in need of a facelift but still quaint in it's own right.
We went to the Cattle Baron's for dinner Sunday night and the bartender in the waiting area kept telling anyone that would listen that Fly Baby Fly was going to win.
We went early Monday because of the expected crowds. It's like their Ky Derby. Many of the ladies dressed to the nines. Super crowded!!
We were going to buy tickets for the upper level at $150 each. But we met an owner outside from Salt Lake City, Utah. He had a horse in the trials but didn't qualify for the finals. He had come back by himself and was also taking 6 horses back home since this was the last day of the meet. He asked if we wanted to sit with him at his owner's table right on the finish line.
Of course we accepted. We won fairly decent on the early races. For the AA I put $20 across the board on FBF just because of the bartender the night before.
That was my only winner in the AA. That $60 bet paid a little over $200.
But we didn't go for the gambling. We went for the experience and it was everything expected. The owner's table thing just added to it.
The downside, AA caused us to miss our connection home last night in Dallas. So we're still in Dallas supposedly on a noon flight to Evansville.
They did get our luggage on the Evansville flight yesterday so we spent a night in Dallas with no luggage.
That's been the only downside to this trip. |

Location: Lala Land | Chris Littlefield's wife and kids were standing next to us during that! Very nice lady, she said he ropes and uses him on the ranch now and that he's truly an amazing horse. Warms my heart.

| Yes....clearly the drug testing had everything to do with the slower field that clocked a measly 92 SI. I'm sure that the 6 MPH crosswind had NOTHING to do with the time at all. |

That was awesome!! I meant to mention that. That was a chills moment. We stayed for the 2 races after the AA. Won a little money on those. Then went to the restaurant in the casino for dinner just to let the crowd clear out. By the time we left we drove right on out and to our hotel.
Another thing, we are runners. Or my wife is a runner. She's training for a marathon in Nov. I run 4 miles 3 times a week. She ran 17 miles Sat morning before we hopped on the plane to NM.
Her schedule was to run 7 miles on Monday. The most I've ever run is 5 miles so I told her that I would 5 of the 7 miles with her.
Less than 2 miles into that run early Monday I couldn't breathe. That altitude was just a killer. I probably only ran 4 miles of the 7 and walked the other. She ran the 7 miles but said it was really hard. As many miles as she runs in training it wasn't the killer for her as it was for me.
No wonder horses that don't train there are not coming in there and beating the ones that do. The sign in front of our hotel said 7000'. |

August 19th .. 14 races x 10 runners = 150
Top 5 times of each day ran in the All American
There were 752 nominated and approximately 70% dropped out
for missed payments, sickness or nominee did not show
the ability to run. This drop out % is normal.
The funds from all the drop outs are added to the purse.
Nomination payment schedule begins in late August of the
Yearling year with lots of late fees if you miss a payment date
or your default is intentional.
$50,000 for last minute entry like Refrigerator did and won.

I agree Ochoa has always had that presence that catches your eye!!

WOW .. it is a wonder you guys did not pass out on that low oxygen
air at 7k... now you can see why some horses are labeled with no
final kick and run way back in the field because they ran out of air.
Also that is why ski resorts have lifts instead of stairs up
the mountain ... lol
Ruidoso used to be known as the home of the midnight juggers.
Everyone would be in the barns jugging their horses to add oxygen
to their red blood cells including the half gallon of blood in a horses
spleen. .. lol ... allowed them to have enough blood oxygen to
make a run for the money.
It is exactly the opposite when homebred NM or horses that have
competed there for 6-12 months come to Tx/Ok tracks .....
They run the best they ever have for the first 3 months and their NM
de-acclimation catches up with them!!
A lot of boxers and running athletes used to train at high altitudes
before their big event.
How did you like the swift descent and rocket ascent as you flew
in and out of the airport ...
Before all of the TSA crap ... for fun... all the women would scream
when falling coming in and going up so fast when leaving.
While us guys would just order another drink

| Fly Baby Fly Takes All American Futurity
Filly Fly Baby Fly wins $3 million All American Futurity.
With a devastating final kick in the late yards of the 440-yard All American Futurity (G1), Fly Baby Fly took the $3 million race from rival Bigg Daddy by 1 1/2 lengths. She won in :21.492.
The fastest qualifier, Bigg Daddy broke well and held the lead through the early stages of the race, until the filly ridden by Jose Alvarez got rolling. She is owned by a partnership and was trained by James Padgett II, who the day prior also won the All American Derby (G1) with Hold Air Hostage and the All American Gold Cup (G1) with reigning world champion Jessies First Down.
"The filly always has trouble with the break and it takes a little while to start her running," Alvarez said. "But today she put everything together. We knew she could run 440, and she proved it today. She got the lead probably about 250 yards and then just pulled away."
Bigg Daddy held well for second, and Hotstepper was a neck back in third. Hes Limitless was fourth, followed by Mr Secret Glory, Uptown Dynasty, Shakem Bye Perry, Hawkeye, Dash For Stone and Believe Me Irene.
Fly Baby Fly is a sorrel daughter of champion and world champion-sire One Famous Eagle out of the champion Walk Thru Fire mare Higher Fire. She was bred by Julianna Hawn Holt of Blanco, Texas. From his first crop, One Famous Eagle also produced 2012 All American Futurity winner One Dashing Eagle.
"She showed her true talent today, and I think there is still some more horse there," said co-owner Bennie Jeter, who with wife Terri owns the horse in partnership with Deena Todd.
This is Fly Baby Fly’s fifth career start, and her third victory. She made her career debut in the Ruidoso Futurity (G1) trials, running third in her trial. She then qualified to the Rainbow Futurity (G1), and finished fourth in the final. She won her All American Futurity trial and ultimately was the 10th fastest qualifier for the race. With the $1,500,000 first-place check, her career earnings now stand at $1,585,200.
Fly Baby Fly’s ownership partnership paid $180,000 for the filly at last year’s Ruidoso Select Yearling Sale. Her half-brother by Corona Cartel, A Galaxy Guardian, was the high seller at this year’s sale, bringing a top bid of $320,000.
Bigg Daddy is a gelding by Big Daddy Cartel out of champion Alice K White, a daughter of First Down Dash. Ridden by G.R. Carter Jr., he was trained by Wes Giles for owners Too For Too Partnership. Bigg Daddy was bred by MJ Farms, the owner and breeder of All American Juvenile winner Jesse Lane. The winner of half of his eight career starts, he has earned $661,418.
"My horse beat the doors open, couldn’t have dreamed that he could have left the gate any better," said Carter. "He ran a really good strong race. Give Fly Baby Fly credit – she just run me down and beat me. I’m real proud of my horse, because he ran really good."
Hotstepper was third. The One Famous Eagle gelding was ridden by Cody Jensen for trainer Sleepy Gilbreath and owners Johnny Cope, R.D. Hubbard, Butch Southway and Rafter W Stables. The bay was bred by Fulton Quien Sabe Ranches out of the Tres Seis mare Pandorum. He now boasts career earnings of $290,200 after five starts.
All American Juvenile
In the $200,000 All American Juvenile, Jesse Lane got up to win by three-quarters of a length over My Southern Dynasty.
Jesse Lane was ridden by Rodrigo Vallejo for breeder/owner MJ Farms and trainer James Padgett II.
One Quick Wagon was third behind My Southern Dynasty, and was followed by He Be Flashy, Overhauling, Tough Dynasty 123, Papaws Paint, Jessica Alexandra, Trace Dynasty and Time To Jazz.
Jesse Lane’s career record now stands at two wins from six starts and earnings of $154,452.
