Have you ever had a young horse that resents mouth pressure and rides better in a hack? Do you just switch to a hack or force them to accept the snaffle? (Barring teeth are done and no mouth issues).

If they are still pretty green I would just ride them in a side pull. At some point though, they have to learn to accept a bit.

I break my colts in a halter and ride them in a variety of hackamores. I have two horses that have never had a bit in their mouths. They are super broke and light. I have many bits, so am not opposed to bits, but I do like hackamores better.

What do you mean by barring teeth, like chewing at the bit, gaping its mouth?

i have a colt that understands flexion and leg pressure and has a good handle but she HATES anything in her mouth. I have tried numerous different kinds of mouthpieces and she has raised her nose (literally) to all of them. I can make her behave with it, but I can tell she's ****ed.

How old is this colt/filly? I would just be riding in a Bosal or a sidepull and later start putting a bit on him/she.. Back when I was starting my babys I always used a Bosal and would but a bit under the bosal while riding and rode with double reins, one set went to the bosal and the other set to the bit, I slowley got them used to the bit this way, dont force but let them get use to packing a bit..
