Location: NeverLand | I have been trying to do my research on saddle fitting. But I need more help. I am trying to find a saddle that will fit my boy. He is about 14.2hh and built like a tank. Hardly has any withers and I would say a wide round back and big shoulders. He has the stocky cow quarter horse body type. He also has a short back so I'm need something with a short skirt/backhousing. I have tried the corriente saddles and the do not fit. They just want to roll right off of him no matter how tight I have the cinch and a thin pad. |

Location: Central Texas | I wish I could figure out how to attach a picture. Saddle fitting is SO hard. I bought this Circle Y kelly kaminski, it was supposed to be a SQHB with a 6.5 gullet. My other kk is a wide fit and the bar angle is just a little too flat for my mare so I thought the reg tree would be perfect. I get this saddle and the bar angle is WIDER than my wide fit! Called circle y and they literally told me "we make mistakes, it could actually be a wide even if the serial number says reg." The only horse it fits in my barn is a friends super wide, mutton withered mare. Yes, I have it for sale. I guess I will have to find local to try stuff on my horse before buying... |

Are you close to Teskey's in Weatherford? They have a lot of different fit options and will fit a saddle to your horse for you. And if they can't find one that fits they can order in trees for you.  |

Location: Montana | I really like the fit of my Reinsman Marlene McRae on my wide horse. No rolling, no dry spots...even sweat patterns. The only thing is the skirt is a little long in my opinion, but my wide horse is shortbacked and still fits her well!
But I do have to agree with the others, if you can find a place where you can try different saddles on your horse, it is better. Sadly I don't have that luxury and I just got lucky! |

Not very fimiliar with the area because we just recently moved here. Is there Anyone in Oklahoma or I guess just anyone that would know of any good saddle shops that I could take him to? |

Location: NE Pa-Gods Country | my new mare has NO withers...so i had to find a saddle to fit over her shoulders. a 10.5" gullet Martin fits her great and no roll...don't have to crank it down so tight that it hurts her and her ability. She is very cinchy though, from previous riders with 7" gullet /cheap tree saddles. My Caldwell with 8" gullet was too small for her. go see Sarah at abitoftackmn.com......she has many really wide saddles to fit those wide, mutton withered horses. |

| I ended up getting an older coats for my guys built similar like you described. Its one of the pre 2004 trees. Both boys are 14.3. The one is a 1250 tank, huge shoulders. The other guy is leggier and about 1050 lbs but his back is just as wide as the other guy. He is very short backed. |

Location: Oklahoma | Robbie Philips is in Springdale , Ark ( he has a website but call him)he will make a tree w flat bars and lower angles , more spread ( barrel trees are 45' so going wide means nada if your horse is flatter ,so flatter is 40 or 42') , he makes his own trees and for a large number of other custom saddle makers so you save a grand by skipping a step. . His new style barrel is like the Corriente or Jeff Smith , G Bar etc etc . Not as cheap as Corriente but totally custom.
If a rope saddle ( they have 40' and flat ) fits your horse -try one - you need roper bars with high cantle and front for barrels . The strip down style w drop rigging should not roll if bars are correct on a short stoutie . Sometimes you can get lucky and get a small ranch saddle w 5" pencil roll that is not too heavy used . |
