| As little as possible. I moved away from bagged products and put all my crew (older brood down to weaner) on alfalfa and timothy. If someone needs a little more fat I put rice bran pellets/flax/soy oil in beet pulp shreds. Have had -0- hoof issues in the 2 years since I ended sugar food. My (almost) weaner this year is a little butterball, definitely one of the best looking I've had, and she is full sibling to two others in past years. |

Location: Iowa | Total Equine. This is the same feed that Momma was on all thru her pregnancy and now. When we wean baby in a couple of weeks we will continue on this feed. Great feed for horses of all ages and usage. My baby looks great coming from a first time Momma! |

Location: Southeastern Idaho | I like giving them all they can eat hay...feeder is never empty. I actually like them on a round bale feeder so they can eat whenever and whatever they want. I try to stay away from processed grains and other feeds as long is they have enough condition. If I think a weanling needs more energy I feed Safe Conditioner from IFA. Their version of Safe Choice but includes probiotics. I like IFA, this mill does strictly horse feed so I don't have to worry about contaminated feed.
I do, however, keep a good loose mineral in front of them at all times. I am using Triple V horse vitamin and loose mineral supplement and am happy with it. |
