Location: LuluLand~along I64 Indiana | Rene Dan Jet (1990-2017 ) Four-time AQHA World Champion Rene Dan Jet passed away on September 30, 2017 of natural causes. A two-time National Pole Bending Association Hall of Fame inductee, Rene excelled in the arena as well as in the breeding shed. Rene’s sons, daughters, and daughters and grandsons have dominated the pole bending and barrel racing pen at the AQHA World Championship, the Ohio All... American Congress and the National Pole Bending Association World Championship for almost two decades. Rene Dan Jet was trained and shown by Brad Wagner of West Harrison Indiana. Brad showed Rene to an AQHA Junior Barrel Racing World Championship at 3, an AQHA Senior Pole Bending World Championship at 5 and went on to win AQHA Amateur Pole Bending and Amateur Barrel Racing World Championships at age 6. Rene earned an additional three Reserve World Championships and over 700 AQHA points in AQHA competition. Rene won the Congress Pole Bending Sweepstakes in 1996 when Brad and Rene won all three rounds of the Sweepstakes, the amateur pole bending and the senior pole bending with 19 second times for every run. Retired from competition in 2000, Rene went on to sire 339 AQHA registered foals, including 4 AQHA World Champions, 13 AQHA Reserve World Champions and 150 foals earning over 9,300 AQHA points. Rene’s legacy as a sire has been carried on by his great sons AQHA World Champion and World Champion siring son Redneck Jet and AQHA World Championship siring sons Ragtime Jet and Bulzeye Dan. Combined, these Rene Dan Jet sons have sired 11 AQHA World Champions, 8 Reserve World Champions and earners of over 8,000 AQHA points. Always a gentleman at the ranch and in the breeding shed, Rene lived out his last 17 years at Mission Oaks Quarter Horses in Paso Robles, California. Rene was laid to rest on a hill overlooking many of the mares he was bred to, many of his own sons and daughters and the yearlings and weanlings his daughters have produced. On behalf of Rene Dan Jet we would like to thank Brad Wagner, all of the owners of Rene Dan Jet foals who have made his name legendary in our sport, the owner of the sons who carry on his name and the owners of the Rene Dan Jet daughters who are being bred and will also carry on the Rene Dan Jet name. See More — at Mission Oaks Quarter Horses.

Ahh no way!! This was one cool cat, and what a legacy he has left especially on the pole bending community. |

Location: In the Hills of Texas | I remember the first time I saw him run barrels at an AQHA show. It sure wasn't pretty but it was fast. He sure could run a set of poles!
Run free, Rene! |

I believe he was inducted in two different categories. Sire and performer. |

| Great stud for sure! Rode a few myself. Since pole bending is NOT genetic I wonder why that specific skill set was so popular with his foals???? Always curious about those things. |

As both a performer and sire of performers. Is your last name Cummings? Just curious. |

while not genetic, a predisposition to athletic talent is and i believe he passed that trait on to his foals. I also believe he was taken very good mares to add to the genetics. he was talented and confirmationally pretty correct.
ps.... shhh dont tell pole benders its not genetic |

LOL Well it was like my DTF colt. I truely believe he was the ONLY son of his that did NOT like to run barrels. Hated it actually. And the mares side was pretty similar to other mares who produced world beaters out of DTF. lol Had to be mine but he was NOT about to be a barrel horse. No way shape or form. |

I believe some horses are built to stand upright when they turn (polebending type turn) and some are built to turn round with forward motion (barrel type turn). Not that one type of horse can't do both events. Just that their aptitude is more for one or the other. |

Location: The best kept secret in TX | I used him as a reference a lot in explaining conformation that I personally favored. Loved his shoulder angle and the way his neck tied into his chest. His hip and tail were positioned just perfectly and the angle of his back legs were set squarely underneath him. Maybe it was just the way he stood but he always looked so proud, yet honest and kind in every photo I saw him in. So very sad... |

I totally agree. He was not a bendy horse and my family and friends that had his get, were the same.
One of of the reasons he produced so many pole bending horses is because 1. He was standing stud in pole bending country. 2. People seeking pole bending horses, bred their mares to him. 3. His get excelled both in barrels and poles but seemed to take to the poles like ducks take to water. |
