Now I'm feeding my 3 horses Renew Gold and oats. They are also on good pasture and or hay 24/7. Besides their hoof condition, I've been pleased with how they look and work on it. I recently purchased a 4 year and want to make sure she's getting all she needs for growth. My vet highly recommends purina products. I have one that I really need to be careful with bc he chokes and gets really hot on some feed. It would be great if I could feed 1 feed to all three. I' d really appreciate some opinions .

Healthy Edge is lower in protein, lower in fat, lower in calories, lower in fiber, and higher in NSC.. contains ground up rice hulls ( no value) alfalfa meal ( perhaps good with coastal Bermuda ) and wheat Mids. I readily admit that I favor RG, but this is why it was formulated differently.

I’d cut the oats out on the one who chokes/gets hot and just feed the Renew Gold to him and see how that works - oats are still a pretty high NSC feed which can have a tendency to make some hot. That might accomplish what you want without changing feeds.

That being said, we do feed Purina and our performance horses get Ultium. They look/feel/work great. I was not impressed when I read the feed tag on the Healthy Edge. The Ultium comes in a slightly lower NSC than the healthy edge and has a higher kcal/lb. we are feeding 1-2lbs/day/head right now and haven’t had to go over 3lbs/hd/day during the heavy work months. Fed 4lbs/day to one to put some lbs on him for a bit then backed him off to maintain. Really like what we see.

Renew Gold is a great feed. I didn’t have good results with the ones I used it on. I feed Omega force from Bluebonnet. Then for hay I feedMustang Sally Omega Plus. The Mustang Sally omega plus would be great for the one that gets hot. It’s was made for horses with PSSM. I use it because I feed a grain too. If you don’t want to feed a grain, then the Omnis cubes complete is a good alternative.

Not going to say HE is better than RG but it's not the worst feed either. I feed HE to the non working ones in my herd. If I had a young one I was working Ultium for sure. I also fed Ultium growth before and liked it. I fed RG and didn't see any difference. I went back to purina because it is easier to find where I live
