Location: South Georgia | As fall is approaching here in South Georgia, I am starting to wonder what type of coat I should get to ride this fall and winter. What do you wear? We get down into the 40's around any time of day I'd be riding (late at a barrel race), but usually we are in the 50's. Even still, I'd like something heavy, as I'm always freezing. What do you wear to ride? All I can think of is the old-fashioned Carhart with a hood. |

| I hate Carhart's. They are so bulky and weigh on my shoulders.

I haven't had an issue with anything I have purchased. Quality items. Make sure to check their clearance items!
I also like the 2 piece Columbia jackets; where you can wear the fleece or outer shell or both.

Location: Ohio girl moved to PA | I cant stand carharts for running. Took bulky. i personally like softshell jackets. you can get them with or without hoods and waterproofed. Im always cold and they are flexible enough to run in if needed. If its extra cold i just throw a hoodie on underneth and im good to go! Im not sure on the brand of mine, i got it at a barrel race. Im in Ohio and we get superrrr cold somedays and these are awesome for riding. |

It has snaps on both sides, so once undone it'll flare so it doesn't bunched up.  |

Location: Southeast Louisiana | I have an Ariat jacket that I just love. I got it from an english riding shop. The bottom is kind of low so that it covers my back side and thighs when I ride. It also has side zippers so it can expand when I'm sitting in the saddle. I couldn't find a picture of it, though. It may just be the way I'm built (short in the torso) but, all of the pics on their web site look like the jacket is much shorter than the way it fits me. |

Location: SW North Dakota | I don't know if they still make them, but I have a Mountain Horse jacket that magically is perfect for 30 about to 40 below. I layer it, but it's water and wind resistant, not bulky and made to fit while you ride. Mine is probably close to 20 years old. It's a little worn out, but we ride 10-12 hour days to gather in wean in the fall (sometimes 20-30 degrees with wind and snow) and I've ABSOLUTELY gotten my money out of it!
Edited to add a link... They still make them. They are unisex sized, and some people complain (read reviews) about the length of the sleeves, but they are perfect for my gorilla arms!

| I have an Eddie Bauer VERY light, down-filled and it is WARM. You can move in it and it folds up inside of one of it's pockets. I think it was $100. |

Ditto on this. I also have an Ariat coat with zippers on the side. Generally their english line of clothing is tailored more for riding, IMO. |

| I have a thin Columbia with that silver stuff on the inside which heats up with your body temp. I can wear it in the fall and stay plenty warm and even a hoodie underneath in MN winter and get by as long as I'm moving around like riding or doing chores. |
