Lameness on top of lameness

So my gelding had a hot nail abscess that I pulled the shoe and drained. Packed with sugardine for two days and he seems to be doing much better but now has a hind limb same side that is swollen around the fetlock and has a dramatic head bob
(downward bob
) I am wondering could he be sore from compensation from the abscess last week or is this a whole new injury I'm dealing with now? I am sweating the hind leg tonight and two grams of bute.

I tend to think it's not related because horses typically work on diagonals; so right front, left hind and vice versa. But you never know. I'd keep treating like you are for a couple days, then see vet if you're not making progress.

could be an abcess or maybe he was just being silly in his pen and twisted his ankle. I'd give it a couple days.

I don't wonder if he got run off by one or the other horses the day the front abscess showed up. With him being so sore maybe he couldn't quite get away and had to scramble? Still swollen today so going to sweat it another night with bute and see where we are tomorrow.

Well, he looked pretty sound trotting away from me in the yard today when he decided to take off while I was doctoring his leg. I guess that's a good thing lol

Much better I'm out of town for the weekend so my SO is watching the animals and he said he was doing good this weekend too. Fingers crossed him to continue to get better. It was such a drastic head bob and now he looks really good.
