HELP! Respiratory/Allergy issues!

My horse gets respiratory issues every year starting in August and lasts through the beginning of December. She coughs a lot, has very loud raspy breathing
(even sounds like growling
),short of breath, etc. I do not ride her at all during this time.
The vet has given Dex for her for when it gets bad but I need something that's safe to give more often. No supplement, antihist, or over-the-counter medicine has helped.
Has anyone had these same symptoms? Did you keep your horse stalled 24/7? What hay did you feed? I currently feed coastal & wet it before giving it to her.
She's pitiful and I need extra advice.

You need to find out what type of cells are present in the lungs. Get a BAL done. I have a gelding with inflamed airway disease that ended up being the more rare mast cell derived one. It's harder to treat and dex doesn't help. I needed a special mast cell stabilizer on order to manage it. He was pulled off of hay and eats soaked alfalfa cubes instead. If your horse is seasonal it might be pasture induced from pollen ect. It's best to keep your horse in a turn out. Regular stalling is hard on them.

I never had a BAL done, however, I kept trying "stuff" until I found something that works. My horse, like yours would get bad when it was dry out, hay started or was a bit dusty. I would need dex for a few days and ventipulmin in order to ride him-he always ate poorly when it was coming on. Last winter I found uckele lung and started him on that-then I followed up with a hay chix hay net for the round bales we feed
(they can't get their nose stuck into the dusty hay quite as far
). We made it through the winter and all of this last year without an issue!! I'm so excited this is working! I did not give him dex at all in the last year! My horse is turned out all the time and we buy the best hay we can find or afford that is mostly grass with a bit of alfalfa. The uckele lung is a pellet and worth every penny! The lung has spirulina which is for allergens and other stuff but I'm so dang happy! I dose him 1 scoop per day normally, when it gets dry or he might be looking a little off he gets 1 1/2 scoop. NO coughing! The best pricing on the LUNG is from statelinetack

I have a gelding that bled during a run because of allergies - I tried a few different things- and my vet put him on dex and venapullamin I didn’t like the idea of drugs so I had a friend who just started using forefront’s respritory a couple months before this happened and she had been through 2 years of antibiotics and steroids Etc. And couldn’t run her horse during the summer months - within a few days she seen a big improvement so I tried it and within 10 days my boys breathing had drast improved - he didn’t cough he didn’t sweat nearly as much his breathing recovery time was back to normal - I don’t even have to drug anymore to run- I love the forefront products they’re inexpensive there’s no cheap fillers or junk in them I highly highly recommend the forefront respritory and the forefront forerunner paste- you can look up shelly hares on fb and ask her questions about it if you would like
