Vaccinations
The One

I usually do my own vaccinations. I was looking on Jeffers and noticed that they have some combination vaccines COMBINED with WNV vaccine, and then they also have kits sold with two different injections
(one of the 5-way, for example, and one of the WNV
). Is there any reason to buy the kit with two different injections, as opposed to buying the combined 5way and WNV in one injection?
Did that make any sense? LOL With them being sold and marketed both together and separate, it made me wonder if there is an advantage/disadvantage I was not aware of.
Options:
1 syringe with 5-way vaccine
1 syringe with WNV
OR
1 syringe with 5 way and WNV in one

RE: Vaccinations
Some people like to have the vaccines in two separate shots due to reactions, so by giving two separate shots, they can see which injection site has a reaction.
Some people choose not to vaccinate for WNV
(hence the 5way without the WNV
), or they don't know the vaccination history/it's a young horse, so they give the 5way + WNV, and booster with the single shot of WNV a few weeks later.
Another possible scenario is some people only vaccinate for WNV and nothing else
(hence the single shot again
).
Personally, I would do the combo
(5way + WNV
) for all of my horses
(one less shot to give
), except those youngsters that would need the booster
(WNV only
) in a few weeks.
Merck offers a guarantee on their vaccines, if administered by a veterinarian. I'm not sure if any other companies offer anything similar. Here's some more info, if you're interested:

I do option 1 - that way I know which one might have given me a reaction, if any. On younger horses.
But, on older then dirt mares, I use option 2.
